What tires are on the car? For silicones, the track must be very clean. Rubber tires will slide all over until you run a lot of laps, and the groove will "rubber in" and you will get much better traction.
It's not unusual to have a pretty slippery first few laps....the important thing is that the track is alive!

New track , lots of laps to break it in.
I dont use silicones so I cant comment there.
Rubber or urethane, same as new track, lots of laps.
If you have some grip but not on corners it could be balance, but I agree with chappyman.

I ran silicone's on my 1st test lap with a Scaley and it got me VERY frustrated. VERY !!!
So I put on a Carrera car with stock tires and was just as bad. What are stock tires on Scaleys and Carrera mase of ?
The thing about the Carrera is that the guide pin is so long that the car gets stuck in spots while I had no issues with the Scaley.
I have NO grip !!! The tires were spinning even while on a long straight section.
The enjoyment I had making my own track was lost when I used the battery on the copper and the cars swung way out on every turn .

Right now you have a "green track" or one that has no rubber on it.

We had the same issue with our track, but lots of running of laps have created a super surface now.

We run Yellow Dogs or Paul Gage urethane tires only on our track.

Worked for us.

I think the stock tyres are synthetic rubber.

My surface is completely different to yours, but I found Paul Gage's XPG urethane some of the best around. It does take some laps to build up good grip.

Going from plastic and magnets to fresh wood and no magnets would be a steep learning curve :? ....but a really fun one :dance:

Bobby, I am not sure you need all new tires. Mostly you just needs lots of time running laps.
Get the other lane braided and your driver's stations wired and then go to town. You will notice the surface getting better as you race.

I never said you need new tires. I was stating what we run.

However you will need to take many laps to wear the surface in. When you start to see permanent rubber tracks you will be getting close.

It's really a fun job.

I have the copper tape on the blue lane and it tested well.
Yes....plastic to wood is like night and day. I ran laps on ModlerBob's track in Florida which is what made me want to give this a try.
Heading down south ( Florida) for a week and upon my return....the wiring process will commence !!
