I made a new friend last weekend in South Daytona. He is a member of team that entered the #51 and 52 chevys. I met him Saturday evening at the new slot car venue that opened this winter. We were driving 1/32 cars on Toby's new scaley sport 4 lane road course and started talking about racing slot cars where the subject of my track in DeBary came up. He sounded interested so I invited him to come by if he had time before driving to Atlanta for next weekend's NASCAR race. I didn't really expect to see him again so I was surprised this morning when I got a call from Jaimie asking if it would be OK for him to drop by. I gave him driving directions and sure enough about an hour later he drove up my driveway. That was 12:30 PM and he didn't leave until 6:30 PM. Plus he's coming back Tuesday and will be at my Wednesday night races. The cars he brought with himself were four or five scaley cars and I helped him tune them up for racing on my track. We didn't talk much about the cup team he works with. One of the cars wrecked out early and the second car finished 19th, driver B.J. McLeod behind the wheel. Jaime told me that several years ago he owned a couple of slot car tracks in Charlotte, N.C. and the fact that he really likes my track did me good. He told me to look forward to seeing him in July before the 400. I was happy to see he had such a good time and it was fun for me because he is a fine slot racer. When he comes back tomorrow I'll try to get a picture to post. BTW his name is Jaimie Hanson.

That’s beyond cool new racers is always good but racers with that kind of background are far and few between :banana-dance:

Well, Jaimie came back today for a total of about 6 hours. He came for a couple of hours in the morning, left to go shopping for a while and then came back around 5:30 and stayed until 9 PM. Again, we had a blast. He's coming back tomorrow to participate in our Wed. evening races. I do believe my raceway has a big new fan.

Update, Jaimie came back today and participated in our Wed. night race program but was unable to gain a podium spot in either of the races. But I could tell he thoroughly enjoyed the experience. He promises he will be back in July when the 400 is run. He is now on his way to Atlanta for the NASCAR race this weekend.

Bob,

That truly is totally cool!.. this coming from someone who only races with himself. That’s why I’m such a fan of proxy racing.... but, there’s nothing like attending a club event or just running with other enthusiasts. The fact that your new friend is also a participant in “full size” racing makes it that much more interesting.
