"Oh Harry, won't you buy me a (1/32) Mercedes-Benz?"
I graduated the following Summer and got a draft number of 92.......I was singing the "Feel Like I'm Fixin' to Die Rag" and they got a lot more than a piece of my heart!
(I was going to post a Youtube of Country Joe and the Fish but the only good version is "unedited"....this is a family site)

When I graduated in '71 was first classified 1A the next year was changed to 1H. Don't remember the draft number but it was in the 200s I think.

Actually, there's a lot more I can't remember nowadays than back then. A few days ago, the name of an old girlfriend popped into my head from nowhere. I even remember the halter top she wore to drive me crazy. I used to pray for a cool breeze...

I remember it all.............and I was definitely there! Complete with bell bottom jeans, faded blue work shirt, way past shoulder length hair, tiny lens blue sunglasses, party mind-set, experience-open, a limited vocabulary that consisted, primarily, of words like "far out", "really" and "right on", red MGA - surfboard in the back. I fit into mid-'60's New England perfectly.................umm - not! Was in Bio lab at college during the first draft; December 1, 1969, and returned to find that I had #235 (January 17); a much better outcome than I got in the lab that day............ Needless to say, the rest of that day I really don't remember; thanks to the effects of women, THC and alcohol..........................
My, how we change................!!

In retrospect, the saddest time in my life. We really thought we were going to make the world a better place. There was so much potential and hope for a better future that just got squandered. I offer my sincere apologies to all the younger people who are left to clean up our mess.

Jeez, you all are making me feel guilty about not signing up for the draft in 71. I joined the USAF after high school and was only seventeen then. Only time that I worried about it was when I was stationed in Thailand in 73, which I figured they wouldn't come over there and get me.
