HRW's 'Big E' made the front page of Friday's Newsday, a major NY Long Island newspaper...

Well - the cover of the color magazine insert 'Explore LI' that is.

But yeah, a 1/24 scale '65 Ford slot car on the front cover, and a nice article with pics featuring Ernie, and promoting the L.I.A.R.S (Long Island Automotive Replica Society) model car show Saturday.

Thanks for the plug, my friend. There were so many people Saturday that said the article is what brought them in to the show, which was the main idea behind the whole thing. Yeah, the editor changed some things around, and got some of the facts wrong (even after more than a dozen phone calls to me asking for clarifications on things), but all in all the piece definitely did it's job. The photographer that came to the house took dozens of photos, but the photo editor refused to accept my suggestions on what pictures to use. She instead was focusing on the size differential between real people and the model cars. Hey, I'm not complaining -- free advertising is better than no advertising -- and if the photog sends me the entire file of photos like she promised, that'll be very cool. I'll try to post some if I can figure it out.
I'm told we had just shy of 500 people through the front door, and I'm guessing about 250-300 (or more) models on the tables. At tonight's LIARS club meeting all the facts and figures will be available. Looking forward to that! Oh yeah, I did pretty good at my five table vendor set up and display, too!

Forgot to mention... starting next year there will be two new judged trophy classes:
HO scale slot cars, and 1/32-1/24 scale slot cars!
These are of course for customized or scratch built models, no "out of the box" beauty queens!

That is really cool stuff! That is a monster turn out!

Just turned on the computer today since last Wednesday. Since then I've been preparing merchandise for this past weekend's (primarily HO scale) slot car show in Parsippany, NJ. I think this is Pete's 18th year with the show. Always fun seeing all my vendor and customer friends. Made some sales and got some cool stuff for myself, too. Thanks again go to Pete and his family for promoting this fun, twice a year show for the HO slot car community.
I also have to thank ECHORR for once again bringing in the beautiful 4 lane routed track to run their Super Stock T-Jet event, and for providing free of charge, T-Jet IROC style races for all who wished to participate. I finished 3rd in the final IROC race of the day, running with three of my Long Island buddies and a few other enthusiasts attending the show. This event's cars were all JL/AW 1968 Dodge Charger bodies with Aurora T-Jet chassis and modern wheel and tire upgrades. Original yellow A/FX 45 ohm (large handle type) two wire controllers were provided for the race. Long Island guys swept the top four spots. That was fun!

As for an update on the LIARS 11/14 Model Car Challenge, we had a total of 359 model cars, trucks, bikes and dioramas entered onto the judged contest tables this year, not counting another few dozen display only pieces. This was definitely up from the past few years.
