First time with Lacquer

I picked out a color for my latest project today. They did not have a GM on the shelf I liked, but found a Yoda that popped to me.

Anyway, followed Shotguns advice. Shot it with Krylon primer. Then wet sanded with 2000. Made sure the paint was warm by sitting it in hot tap water for about 5 minutes.
Gave it 3 good coats.

No award winner, but came out pretty smooth and clean.

Yep. Lacquer doesn't have time to show through, it dries so fast. For the longest time, I didn't know there was any kind of primer for models but gray. Still came out great.
Harry, this is the time to try the Tamiya polishing compound. Truly amazing stuff, and very little effort.

Looks great! I still use the Duplicolor Primer/Filler. Hides a bunch of little nicks and scratches before I wetsand and paint. I also won't paint without warming the paint!

Krylon now has white and red primers back in stock at my Wally World. This was gray, but I wetsanded pretty well.
Of all the paint tips I have read across the web, as well as my own personal tutorial Shotgun has given me, the most important is patience. Take your time. As Dave said the top will only look as good as the bottom. In other words, the foundation has to be right. Making sure the body is clean and smooth before you lay down the paint is as important as the paint itself.
This is no award winning finish, but pretty good for an old hacker like me :)

Thanks, I was going to grab that primer but got "rushed" in the store. 2 Bubbas the size of the Buick they were working on were not happy with one another. It was time to get out of that aisle to give you an idea.

I don't use lacquer often and when I do it's always an acrylic one. I do think the formulation offers an intensity and depth not possible in other acrylic formulations. So, for specialty finishes like metallics, pearls and other micas it's either lacquer or clear colour over base.
