Paint Booth

Postby Audi1 » Tue Oct 07, 2014 11:30 am

I've been doing my painting outdoors this Spring, Summer and Fall. But being located in Northeastern MA, the Fall is short and the temps go down quickly this time of year. So, with a couple of cars still to paint, I'm wondering if it makes sense to just hope for some warm days ahead (unlikely) or to construct a paint booth.

I'll probably go in the latter direction, since it's going to be a long Winter and I'm sure that I'll have more than a few cars that need painting/re-painting.

So, what's the best way to construct a paint booth? I don't need a fancy one; I just need one that will get the job done inside without smelling up the place. I also need one that will successfully deal with the chemicals/particulates in spray paints. I've developed an allergy to one (or more) of the carriers in Tamiya aerosol paints and I wear a respirator when I paint now. So, I'll need one that vents the spray away from where I'm working.

It's starting to sound more complex than I'd like it to be; I want to keep it simple if I can.

Definitely on my 'to do' list. Getting sick of not being able to spray due to weather. Continually finish up with tight deadlines because of it.

Thanks for the link bibbster; a lot of good ideas/info there. Finally saw the booth that Thompson constructed to paint the Porsche 911 that we're running now in a proxy race.
