Repaint of Scalextric '70 Camaro...

Picked up an extra Castrol SCA '70 Camaro for less than I could get a white kit one for, so it has become the donor for the latest repaint...
What started as this:

Has been stripped and the three coats of Dupli-color Metal Specks Retro Red laid on.

Unfortunately, I didn't think to take a picture out in the sun (it really makes the metal flake "pop"!) - but the above gives a bit of a teaser shot to start with.
BTW Bibbster - the Tamiya paint stand you provided info on is AWESOME! (
viewtopic.php?f=19&t=6264&start=15 ) Today was it's first outing and WOW was that ever nice to use verses my previous methods of holding bodies to paint! A LOT lower potential to have an "accident" due to it tipping, coming off the tape, etc! :D

I got one of those from that guy, too. Should have bought three for the price.

Dave - you will REALLY like the stand!
waaytoomuchintothis - yeah, for the price, I just couldn't pass up picking up a couple of the Camaros for repaint projects - they even come with lights! :)
On the stand - I am with you! If I see a deal on another of these, I am definitely going to snag it as it is just tooooo convenient to use! I am thinking that it is going to be VERY handy for use in applying decals as well! :)

I trap the stand against the edge of my work table so the car is held at a convenient angle for applying decals. You have to be careful, though, because it will pop off the swivel stand and scoot across the table in front you if you press a little too hard doing it that way. If I get a second one I am going to experiment with defeating the swivel and locking it on in a fixed position. For 40 years I painted on a bent coathanger just like the model car magazines taught me in 1961. When Tamiya brought this little jewel into my life, I never looked back.

Nice finish. I have seen guys with that stand and it's used so much they had to chip away the layers to keep it working, that's how much they like it.

Thanks guys! The paint laid on / flowed out - using the hot water soak on the can, and the new body holder made keeping the "wet edge" a snap!
Definitely happy with how it is turning out so far. :)
Now to figure out whether to go "street" or "fantasy livery"... Decisions, decisions! :)

They are both spectacular looking cars, love the paintjobs. Todd seriously man, that's from a can ???
Can't wait to see the Red one finished. Calling it Red is such an Injustice, it's such an Eye Popping colour.
