Chrome paint

Last evening I painted an Artin American Thunder Stocker Chrome. I used Dutch Boy Instant chrome. Two coats and it looked good.
Then... To protect the finish I used Rust-oleum Ultra Cover Clear and it turned the Chrome to Gray.
Wha-happened? If I use Future will the same thing happen? Rubbing the Chrome also brings out the gray.
I'm puzzled.

I had the same thing happen, so the next time I used clear on my paint and shot the chrome over it, I am going to try foil next time
hope there is an answer

I waited until all the paint I put on it was dry and painted it Chrome again.
Tomorrow I will try the Future. I want this to be silver, not gray.
I'll let you know tomorrow afternoon. The morning is a "Honey Dew"

Future is the way to go. I now have a silver (Chrome) car. It ain't the best Chrome I've ever seen but it will do for me.

After two coats of Future I thought the paint job was protected.
Boy, was I wrong. I hit it with the clear coat and GRAY again! Right through the Future.
I'll strip the body and just use Future to protect the finish, tomorrow.

they will work on all surfaces when using the airbursh because you need real thin coats. Start out with a black base coat then top with light coats (chrome) until desired color is achieved.the aerosol might go on too thick is the only thing i would be worried about

I remember that article. I have used chrome sprays and have no complaints, but it still a mystery to me about the black undercoat. What does that do, anyway?

it gives the chrome that "mirror like" finish
