Mr Wise,

I have an important question regarding the PSI that you run your compressor on to spray paint models.

I have the same compressor as you have and am using a Paasche single stage airbrush with the standard hose thing.

What PSI would I need to set the compressor on H?

I am planning to paint this weekend and really need to know this information so I dont stuff up a nice model....

You really should have a inline pressure gauge close to the air brush. If you just set the gauge pressure at the compressor you will lose pressure at the gun. Depending on how long the hose is. I use 20 to 25 psi at the gun.

H, its not my drag racing buddies, I think I got frontal lobe damage from the bike accident.....

....either that or the drugs they put me on afterwards....

Anyway 25 PSI it is, the compressor has a water trap so all good there.

It is a bit of a daunting step this one, I was never good at painting static models, but I have my HRW helpline if I should run into any spot of bother....

....and my wife has been watching some Dr Cranky videos on You Tube (i think thats the dudes name, he really needs to get a life!), so hopefully we wont make an absolute bollocks of our first project drag car.

With any luck you will see a Gold 1970 Chevy Monte Carlo with Harwood hood scoop and Pro Track centrelines on these most prestigious cyber pages within an unspecified number of days (well maybe a week) :)

The chassis is a Parma Edge, motor is a Parma 16D Homeset, yep huge power in this one, its for our clubs 1.400 second "Show and Go" class or as I refer to it, the TOW CAR class. I just have to fit up the body and we should be good to start this painting business.

Rob, might I suggest you have a look at ShotgunDave's Painting 101 thread before you commence. Fabulous results can be had by using water based acrylics. And if you muck up they are easier to strip and re-paint.

To me at the moment, painting is very daunting, but I hope I get a handle on it.

Speaking of which, my soldering has improved outta sight!!!!

Am enjoying that side of things now, hopefully the painting will end up being the same too!

Using ShotgunDave's guide will give you enough confidence to tackle other painting sources. I even airbrushed a candy job. Not perfect but good enough for a proxy car.

Rob, can't wait to see the finished product. Good bad or ugly I'd like to know how you go, because I'm thinking about getting a bit of painting gear myself.

My painting and soldering skills have shot up to mediocre and Carp respectively, so a huge improvement over where I started :D . Therefore time to spend some money !!!

And still no one believes me when I show them the cars done in water based acrylic.

I've finally got some 2 pack urethane clear coat to try for top coat. I've still be using Tamiya TS13 until now. None of the auto-sprayers around here were particularly helpful (gee... that's a surprise) but I now have access to a Valspar rep and have 1 litre of Z9000 Speed Clear to try. :)

Embs, I would like to hear how you go with that. I'm led to believe that it's not as "Hot" as acrylic clears are, and should be a little less aggressive over the top of Decals etc.

Will do Ted. The real beauty is that the rep shoots it from his airbrush without any nasty reducing. Lots of experimenting ahead.

I want to paint nekked girls on this one, how does one go about that I wonder?

First find girls small enough to fit on it...
