So I know you all have read ShotgunDaves most excellent painting how-to :clap:

I love to build chassis and cars, but my paint looks about like it did when I was 8 :oops:

A few years back I got a deal one a Iwata airbrush and compressor so I used a little different equipment then Dave, but I used his method

I used the airbrush to do my landscape and found squirt bottles are better so it has sat in a drawer since, I have no other painting experience other than rattle cans and shaky hands :hand:



I used a grey Ace primer,I have had this car primed for weeks now I will get some of Dave's brand if this works out, I used 1500 paper again what I had, then washed the body in mild soap.
that paint is a Pearl Blue about 35 years old I used distilled water to get it like milk

about 5 coats later

I've got to admit, I was having a play around yesterday afternoon. Still trying to get over the psychological hurdle of wanting to do a wet coat for a smoother surface finish. On the bright side, if it doesn't work out, just wash it off with water before it's fully dry and shoot it again. :)

just after these shots I tried to put a white stripe down the center and some how I dug a spot in the paint placing the decal, so its in a bowl of warm water ready for a repaint. I peeled most of the paint off like like plastic wrap, how long should I wait for the clear?

No big deal, it was fun and now I get to do it again, I got plenty of paint :lol:

got it in clear now, 2nd time I had a little clog in my airbrush, took a little sand paper to it this morning, added to coats and let that dry then 2 coats in clear, I want to get the decals on it and get some more photos later

need to put it together and a few more touches but I was losing light fast so here it is, hope you like it

Looks great Jon. For years I have been thinking of buying a airbrush but have never taken the plunge. Ive been getting great results with spray cans for years so why change what works. In saying that after seeing these great paintjobs Im thinking about it again. Nice work Jon, lets see some color on the 50 Olds! :)

Greg, for me the airbrush works better, I tend to put down heavy coats and with the small bowl on my airbrush keeps me to fast light coats, plus I have way better control.

Ember, I like the control that you just can not get with rattle cans, and if you mess up it easy to redo
