What is the best way to strip paint off of resin?

I recently acquired a partially completed Protoslot resin that could really use a repaint. It was painted, decalled, and well- I should be polite to the previous owner since I don't know who it was, so I'll just leave it at that. It really should be redone.
:?: Can I use 91% isopropyl alcohol on a resin body without melting it? How about a diluted caustic soda solution? Any other ideas? Alchemy, Wicca, Voodoo? I'm open to anything that works. Thanks!

I guess really the worst thing about it is the cracked decals, but I don't know of a way to remove just the decals without damaging the paint.

Pine-Sol cleaner works. Give the body a bath in Pine-Sol. Use a soft small brush to scrub the paint off. Works best on water based paints, but works on other types as well. After the paint is off a warm bath will finish the job and remove any of the Pine-Sol left behind. Also a great way to clean a resin body before painting. Removes all the mold release that is left behind. Makes the house smell good and your wife will think you have been doing cleaning chores around the house.

Oh, man... that body looks like it's out of a junkyard! Ok. I'll steer clear of alcohol. Thanks for bringing that up.
By the way, great save with that car. It looks like it ended up coming out okay in the end. I'd imagine that there was lots of heating, pressing, and cursing that accompanied it though.

I use Simple Green most of the time and have also used cheap oven cleaner from the dollar store. DO NOT USE ALCOHOL! Patrick knows of what he speaks of...

I tried 91 proof alcohol to remove chrome from a set of bumpers I need to paint, after 3 hours or so of soaking, and with a bit of rubbing the chrome came off, I guess the 91 proof is pretty tough! At least it didnt damage the plastic.

I've used Simple Green and Pinesol to remove chrome plating on model parts.

For chrome removal on plastic parts, not resin, Clorox will take it off in a jiffy. Doesn't smell the best but it works fast, just rinse after stripping. I'll chime in about the use of 91% alcohol on resin DO NOT DO IT! The outcome is not very nice. :)

I sit 'em in a bath of caustic soda and never had a problem. Even stripped some vac. formed bodies successfully.
Watch out for the fumes though.
Chris.

On the chrome stripping; when I did my Carrera Ferrari 166/212 I discovered that "German" chrome is virtually impervious to bleach...after soaking for 2 days it was barely dented. Thanks to Bibster I tried "409" and the chrome was gone in an hour!
Don't know if 409 would work on stripping the resin or not....any input?
