Now that is a cool project. What a neat model to choose.
You did great!
All I ever did was use acrylics to weather the wheels...never thought about stripping them.
Your effort shows.

I have always liked that car. The Carrera is almost perfectly weighted for wood tracks right out of the box. Nice job on it.
I used to try to strip and brush wire wheels, but lately I have been getting good results from Testor's Metalizer. Its pretty amazing paint, from exhaust discoloration to bare steel, and lots of variation in between. Best of all, its thin- really thin, so it doesn't build up on the surface at all. It sticks the same to aluminum, plastic, chrome, brass, and fiberglass.

Thanks for the comments, folks. I know the Ferrari shields aren't really period correct but after it was painted it just "needed" them. Guess I'm going to have to figure out a chassis and wheels to go under my Chris Cagee "Ninco" resin 166 body so this can have a stablemate.
