New Carrera C7.R Corvette heads to the paint shop!

My entry for the upcoming Carrera Digital Proxy is going to be one of the new Carrera C7.R Corvettes!
It was a tough decision to send this GREAT looking body to the alcohol dip - but I wanted to have a "unique" livery for my entry, so it had to be done! :o

Here she is as received...

And after removing the heat stakes, etc - she is prepped for stripping!

More to come after "The Dip"! :)

Very interested to see what you are thinking. I've been thinking about doing a retro Greenwood Corvette livery on one.

It will be sporting a fantasy livery - but I am not fully decided on the colors / design yet.
Hoping to get a base color on it this weekend to start things off though. :)

I am really happy that you are doing a re-paint for the proxy.

Todd,

How did you get the decals off the windshields? Will soaking the clear plastic in alcohol just like the body work?

The windshield is just like the body but I use fresh alcohol to be safe. I usually leave the windows alone because they look far cooler than anything I'm going to put on them.

I'm looking forward to this repaint.

Burrell -
Bruce hit the nail on the head, I just dipped the windshield in the 91% alcohol right along with the body. :)

I am making sloooow progress on this - but after knocking out a couple other projects this last weekend (finished a HO Racing Rig relivery and getting ready to pour the silicone around my master for a '48 Chevy Aerosedan) - it should be full steam ahead again! :)

How long to you leave the body soak before the paint comes off?

Cheers

Dan -
If you are using fresh alcohol, usually the paint is able to be brushed off after 30 minutes. If there are multiple layers / decals, etc it may take additional time - but it makes for a very easy way to strip them.
I have a small dish with a lid that I keep the alcohol in that allows the entire body to be submerged with ease and then put away for next time. :)

Thanks. I've had soooo many questions on how to do it. I figure I'd put together a video. Hopefully it's helpful to someone.
