The P68 is a fun little model, isn't it? It's so low that it just slinks around the track. It's stupid-fast running on magnets, and I bet is a blast on wood.

When I lived in Waco, TX, I learned that Dr Pepper was invented by a local pharmacist as a cure for alcoholism, much like Graham crackers and some other products. There is a Dr Pepper Museum in Waco, and the original drink (very different and much better), is still made at the original contract factory in Iredell, some miles away. Those folks at the museum will get you anything you want. They live for the phone call to do something. Very enthusiastic. Finding out you are a fan will make their day.

One more thing-- that color is a match to a boiler paint color for marine engines. Detroit Diesel reproduced it for their marine diesels. I used it once on a Hudson. It goes on darker than what you want, but cures just right. It has ceramic particles in it for heat dissipation, so go easy and very light coats.

Cool project Jeremy, the color will be interesting. Ill be interested to see what you come up with. I wonder if a colour similar to candy apple red may be ok, maybe a darker shade. Testers/model master have a few of these colors in a spray. I have one in the garage, ill check it out when I go out there later. Now get it done.

Yep. That's it. It was supposed to make people think that it wouldn't spoil kid's appetites for a meal that was coming soon. Also, did you know the majority of flavor in Dr Pepper is prune juice? My roommate years ago drank a Dr Pepper and was in a bathtub full of oatmeal for a week, as he was allergic to prunes.

With prune juice being the majority flavor, the original name was going to be Dr. Pooper but they didn't think that was very marketable.

Color-wise, Testors Burgundy Red Metallic might do. Of course, my wife insists that I'm color-blind so take that point in to consideration...

I've also been bitten by the paint stripping but the primer not. I had sanded a the paint off of a body, going through the primer at some spots down to the plastic. I went ahead and painted the body anway, only to have dramatic changes in color hue show up. That's when I learned that paint doesn't hide anything. I also learned a lot about orange peel and becoming discouraged! Anyway, good luck with this one.

I thought you were going for the old can, with the green background, like your example. The color of the current can is Testors lacquer Root Beer, dead on. The red is just a shade darker than the old can I got for you above.

That Root Beer paint from Testors is something you have seen before. Remember my metallic orange '70 Camaro? It had that root beer color for stripes. I still have a picture here somewhere. I'll go look.

I think you would be happy with the root beer for this project. Here is one I painted quite a while back with the Testors Root Beer.

It should come out just right, watch out for that red. Its a fooler shade, and the eye doesn't make associations with new data, even the tiniest bit off. I looked at seven reds before I found that one.

...Cant wait to see how this one turns out, the P68 body is a lovely thing, I think this is going to look cool!
