I may just give your method a try. I normally use oil paints with Japan drier to get a woodgrain on styrene. It's fairly effective but tedious. Your method seems easier. I'm always learning something new. Thanks. :)

Wow that is incredible. Very nice work. I have a Chris Craft Constellation that has been in my closet for years I might just get it out and try your method. My father owned a 1953 barrel back Chris Craft , absolutely beautiful boat. He spent months on the motor and even longer on the varnish. I know one of my brothers has a picture somewhere. Anyway great job on the boat and the trailer. Jim

The Minwax forms a really nice grain effect with the wipe of a piece of sponge. However, make sure you let it dry thoroughly. Plastic does not absorb it so let it dry for about a week before you try to coat it with clear.

You can use the Japan drier in any oil based stain, varnish, or paint. Makes it dry much faster than normal. You might give it a try. :)

Yes it was done with my usual technique of placing it on a faux asphalt surface. However, in this case, I removed the base in its entirety with photoshop by layering the car photo over a photo of the road alone.
