A little lexan painting / experimentation...

Postby TuscoTodd » Sun Sep 21, 2014 8:27 pm

While not the normal high detail / realistic type of paint job normally shown on here, I thought everyone might get a kick out of seeing these and for those that run lexan bodies for some of their racing - it may even be of some interest! :D

We have a special, Parma Womp - VW Bug - series starting at the local track and everyone has been encouraged to paint their own bodies verses using the generic pre-painted ones.
So to that end, I thought what better opportunity for some paint / technique "experimentation"!

The paint details for both of the bodies are below...
Enjoy!

First up - the "Fire Bug"
Preliminary coat on the front 2/3's of the body is with Parma Faschange Red (NOTE: when they say one coat they mean it! Otherwise instead of a red highlight - you get a different color/shade - even though it dries nearly clear on the body!)

Colors for the fade were Parma Faskolor paints:
FASORANGE - #40007
FASRED - #40003
FASBLACK - #40001

And for the little fire dude:
FASYELLOW - #40002

While I wasn't able to high light the yellow "fire dude" with the orange the way I had originally planned due to the Faschange masking the color (the orange looks like peach), I did like how the fade turned out, and think it may make for an interesting "novelty" body once it is cut out and mounted:

The second body (nicknamed "Tiger Beetle") turned out a little closer to what I was expecting/shooting for. :)
For this one, it was more of an experiment in masking as this was my first experience using Parma's masking tape (Fastape). I have to say that I definitely like how easily it cuts and it leaves a nice clean paint line to boot!

Main body - Mix of:
FASPEARL GOLD - #40053
FASORANGE - #40007
(Gave a nice metallic/pearl orange!)

Lower:
FASWHITE - #40000

Stripes:
FASBLACK - #40001

I think this one will look pretty "distinct" under the lights at the track! :)

Tusco Todd,

I especially like the top Bug with the face on front. Very cool. Great job!

Nice bodies! Those are cool and unique on the track, I am sure.
I was wondering if I was going to see daisies and the whole "Mystery Machine" flower-power livery!
These will be nicer though. Running on Womps?

Hendrix, indeed :scared-eek:
I was thinking more like this:

But with more flowers in bright pink and yellow, maybe....... :music-rockout:

LOL! Have to give credit to whoever did up the "Mystery Machine"! :)

And WOW - Florida_Slotter - that is one psychedelic looking paint job! :o

But in all honesty - glad you guys like them - it will be a bit of a change up from the black and white '57 Vette body WOMP I normally run:

Tusco Todd,

I do think that L&M liveried Porsche 917-10 is one of the Parma "Retro" Womp bodies? At least it looks a whole lot like it.

Speaking of Womps, we Womped away yesterday with "Legends", Pavement Modifieds and Late Model bodies on our Womps. It was quite enjoyable.

Hey, sometimes a change is needed. Kind of like a fresh start.

Florida_Slotter -
I am pretty sure you are correct about the L&M Livery body being a Parma "Retro". :)

We currently only have the one "Spec" class running the Womps right now - with JK's and FCR's filling out a lot of the other "production chassis" classes. Would love to see it expand to a couple additional classes as the Womps make for some pretty entertaining racing! :D

Oh - I agree about the Womps being a whoooole lot of fun to run!
For our "spec" class, we utilize a reduced power motor (Plafit Rabbit - FC-130 motor rated at 24,000rpm) and limit the width to 2.5" max - combined with spec tires and motor pinion gear ends up making for some VERY close & fun racing! :D
