The car in the picture got two coats of Ruby Red Metallic.

All of the Testors metallics are transparent to a degree. The finished color will depend on what you use for a base color. Putting the red metallic over black gets you a maroon for example. If you put a light coat of Ruby Red over gold you get what GM used to call Firemist. With these paints I have used gold, silver, black, white and yellow as the base coat.

RichD - thank you for the additional clarification. I think I am going to have to get some of that paint to experiment with! :)
