Amateur Video.. Soldering brass on ceramic plate

Warning: I am not a paid actor, nor am I an expert at anything.

That said, I made a little demo video this afternoon to share with you all..

Up until 2 weeks ago I had never soldered brass.. but I did want to try so when Harry posted his ‘build along’ thread I decided to give it a go.
I’ve already completed two chassis that seem to have come out OK. Now that I know how easy and rewarding it is, I’ll be doing it more often,
so I ordered a ceramic tile and some pins to make the process a bit easier.

I just got those items in the mail today, so I decided to solder a PM motor mount to a couple frame rails to show how easy it is to solder brass.

Please pardon the unscripted babbling, and my hitting the camera making it sway back and forth for a while..
This was a one take affair LOL. Hopefully someone will find it helpful~



Here are a few ‘after’ shots so you can see how the part cleaned up after I stopped recording..
It’s a pretty easy process to prep, solder and clean..

nice job Kevin, how you like those tapered pins? I only wish they were stainless so they would not solder to the chassis.
BTW ... another use for that BLEACH-WHITE tire cleaner, it ill eat that flux residue and makes clean up much easier.

Great tutorial, I was using the nailgun pins until I saw and ordered those tapered pins, they are the real deal. Thanks man.

Kev, take that acid brush and trim some of those bristles off, a lot easier to work with...I use a trimed back acid brush to clean up spray guns....
Plus a toothpick works good for little dabs of flux, even liquid acid flux...Nice video.....
