Combo Build

Postby brainslot » Sun Nov 09, 2014 8:02 pm

This is a scratch built chassis I just completed for U13 Proxy race. The body is an ARII 1965 Toyota S800.
The chassis is combination of CNC cut brass, machined ABS plastic front axle mounts and my own Winpod for FF050 motors that I designed. I am not very good at soldering and bending brass....so I like to combine materials that simplify the process for me. I like to design in CAD, machine or 'grow' parts and then assemble them. The Winpod is available from Shapeways....just search for Brain's Bin or FF050 pod. Wheels are Slot Car Corner 14x6 insert wheels with Paul Gage tires. The wheel inserts are from the model kit...I had to turn them down a little to fit in the hubs.

Great job! And they're such a tiny car. The old man had one when they lived in New Guinea but he was told they were not legal in Australia (head-lights too low rings a bell) so he sold it when he and mum decided to come home. Guess they figured the kids would have grown up after 10 years away :lol: Fun car though.

Hi Brian;

You are teasing us again with the front end of that thing, and adjustable height also. When is it going to be available on Shapeways?

I'm looking forward to driving that car when the U13 comes here.

Cheers,

Keith

I missed this when it was first posted - but we need to see some more from Brainslot!

I really like the use of different tech and approaches to building. Usable 3D and CAD seems to be within the realm of the home user - and that is interesting.

Definitely second the welcome and look forward to more.

That is cool! I really like the chassis, very innovative. I never thought much about combining materials, but I can definitely see how it would work. Nice job. :)
