Vintage trans Am

Postby proxieken » Sat Oct 26, 2013 7:30 am

I have decided to build a few new scratch builds from the 67-71 Trans Am era. There are a lot of available cars in 1/32 but for some odd reason I want to do this in 1/24 or 1/25. I have a few 1/24 kits already, but it seems that 1/25 has more available. I have not found a Firebird from 1968 in 1/24, only 1/25. It seems the available Javelin is in 1/25 also. Decals seem available, at least some of them. I was going to start with the Sam Posey Challenger in 1/24 scale but now I am wondering if I should switch to 1/25.

I can mix and match, but there is some variation that is noticeable. I have a Charger in 1/24 and also 1/25 and side by side it is visible that one is larger.

Has any one done this and what scale would offer the most variety of hard body cars without taking out a second mortgage?

Hi, I build mainly the larger scale now. I to want to replicate the vintage trans-am field. I have been collecting kits for many years now & now have enough to build a complete T/A field. Just need to find the time to build them. Originally I was purchasing both 1/25 & 1/24. I wasnt to fussed. But after looking at the kits I prefered 1/25. In my eyes the 1/24 kits just looked big & bulbous. Just the scale size in 1/25 looked right on. So I sold off the 1/24 kits & repurchased them in 1/25. ALso with 1/25 they give you a bit more room on the track.

Some kits are very hard to find in 1/25 & when you do they fetch big $. So you have to resort to resin kits. Even some of those are hard to find but they are all out there.

So thats my opinion for what its worth. Im a scale purist so I suppose I could be biast. Some people dont care about the 1/25 & 1/24 thing, thinking they are close enough in scale size. There is no right or wrong way to build them. Just what ever you prefer.

If there is any kit in particular you are looking for let me know & I can point you in the right direction.
