Resistors on motors - Question for the electronics boffins

In the course of tearing apart Scalextric Micros, and Carrera Go's (sorry hO and 1/43 boys!), looking for possible motors for the Morgan, I've found that both seem to have resistors wired in series with the motors, as well as the capacitor that is wired across the motor terminals.

I know the capacitor is there to reduce radio interference, but what are the resistors for? - and can they be discarded without ill-effect?

Come on, don't be shy about declaring yourself a boffin (thought: Hope it doesn't mean something rude in America :shock: )

Some of these components that look like resistors could be inductors or RF filters instead.

Their function is the same as the capacitor - to cut down the high frequency noise that is generated by the motor turning.
If you measure the resistance of the device it will probably be quite low but will be dropping some voltage when running.

I would remove them on an analog car.
