Since I could not find any of the Green Carrera AM DB5s at a decent price I picked up an Airfix model kit to do a "kitbash" or slot car conversion. Has anyone done this one and would you care to share your build ideas (Chassis) and opinions on how the Airfix one stacks up to Carreras?

Airfix is strict about scale, so don't be surprised if its cramped in there. The kit has a good floor pan that gives you perfect dimensions for a scratchbuilt chassis. The biggest problem with these is the total lack of chrome. You will have to deal with foil or automotive chrome spray paint for that. The kit wire wheel inserts aren't bad for a kit, but you may want to use large wires like Ninco or Scaley to make inserts. The fine wire from BRM is far too small to look right on the car. The Stromy wires (if you can find them) look just fine.

dge467 that silver paint looks stunning~! Was going to do the "Racing Green" color, but now I'm on the fence and may just need to make 2!
