Not quite scratchbuilding...

... but a huge new step for me!

I have entered the Canadian Mr Slotcar proxy and bought one of the Mr Slotcar contender series Mazda 787's in purple to prepare for the proxy. However: when I got the car the purple really was not very nice: more like a dull mauve-ish colour rather than a rich, dark purple. So in a moment of insanity I decided to strip and paint it. My first slot car paint job ever!

Initially I was going to go for a two tone scheme but in spite of the ridiculous rush of blood to the head, some modicum of a grasp on reality apparently remained: I am just not ready for that kind of thing! Actually, I am not really ready for any slot car painting thing..

But whatever: fools rush in and all that kind of thing. So this afternoon was clear and relatively warmish in Vancouver, so I decided to grasp the nettle... and the basics are done!

* Paint stripped and car body prepped.
* Two thin coats of Tamiya primer
* Two coats of Tamiya metallic silver
* About 4 coats of Tamiya Clear red
* Two coats of Tamiya clear.

And that's when I decided enough is enough!

While it is a million miles away from perfect, I am quite satisfied with my amateurish first ever slot car painting attempt:

Now just to replace the small bits, add number decals and coat with Future and that will be it! Fortunately it is a race, not a beauty contest!

Self-deprecating, I would say - Alwyn, that's a pretty car! I love the red over the silver.....that sparkle is very unique.
Nicely done, I say!

Nice. Can`t miss that red missle flying around Luf`s track.

You`ll soon be casting bodies.

You need to get a honeycomb board and some brass and soon you'll be winning our Constructors' Award.

I appreciate the encouragement.

After posting the original pictures I removed the body from the foam on which I painted it and just loosely dropped it on the chassis. Together with better lighting I must say I am rather chuffed with the outcome:

You should be chuffed! That is a fantastic effort, and he fact that you did so well on your first time is even better! Beautiful color!
