1/32 scale bodies what size/brand to look for?

Postby sidedraft » Mon Oct 13, 2014 9:48 am

Guys in our club myself included have been buying model kits here & there, my dumb question is this,, what scale is smaller 1/24 or 1/25?
We run mostly slot.it chassis & are having a hard time finding 1/32 true scale bodies.
The few we have got in are way too small even though they are listed as 1/32. So my other question is what brand name & true to scale 1/32 bodies do we look for say like on ebay or other on line sites.
Thanks in advance!

Sidedraft, 1/25 is smaller than 1/24th scale. I can tell from experience, that 1/32 car kit bodies are all over the map on actual size.
It will depend on what you are building as much as what manu. you are buying from. even the slot car manu. have a hard time building true scale stuff (look at the different driver sizes that come in various cars?).
This is what I have found so far
Lindberg They make some great sports car bodies that are darn close to 1/32 scale, BUT, There vintage car selection stinks as far as scale goes, they are way to small by anyone's standards The ones advertised as Paul Lindberg kits are the best for scale.
Revell Most of there stuff is spot on,with maybe a few selections I am not aware of.
Vintage Aurora 1/32 kits are also pretty true to scale,or at least look right to my eye when built.
MPC Not bad scale wise on most of there kits, lots of great stuff there for Trans am series cars as well as bombers.
PYRO Same as lindberg, just a name change
There are lots of others out there I have not touched on, but the rule around here is, If it looks right,It is right!
Hope I helped at least a little

Agreed. Go with resin bodies and forget the detective work.

I can tell you from my experience that some of the the Lindberg kits are insanely smaller than scale, never larger than scale, and occasionally very close. I still have a Lindberg Chevy Pickup model that was supposed to be 1/32 that is actually smaller than 1/43! Included in that kit is a motorcycle to go in the truck bed that defies a scale assessment. Its smaller than 1/43 or 1/48, but too large for HO.

Pyro wasn't always Lindberg. Old Pyro was pretty good. It was when Lindberg bought Pyro's molds that Lindberg started making scale. Palmer was another acquisition during those days that Lindberg bought.

Thank you all for the replies! We will look into the suggested sites on here & those that support HRM. Just a quick example we got in the other day a snap fit Linberg 71 Elcamino, that is less than 1/43 scale even though it was listed as 1/32, you are right some of the 1/32 scales are all over the place. Will post some pics of our 1/32 scale bodies, they are not pretty but they do run!
Thanks again
