flared Porsche 356 speedster - build 2

Postby VTECFOUR » Sat Sep 12, 2015 8:49 pm

Starting on a new speedster.

Image

This one's going to use the Devised Designs slimline motor pod, front axle/guide bracket and guide. My last Europa incorporated these and turned out well.

Stay tuned.

Cool, I have those parts as well and am curious how they turn out.

Chassis's rolling. Same wheels/urethane tires as my first speedster - Ranch Design, Paul Gage fronts, Fly March F1 rears).

Perimeter chassis's composed of 3/32" square brass and .032" brass strip and attached to DD pod with 2mm Scalextric Sport screws. Will add side pans for additional weight.

Body's mock fitted to get the front and rear tracks set with spacers cut from 1/8" brass tubing.

Should be running soon.

Chassis's running. Added .032" brass pans. Installed a Scalextric FF050 black 30k motor to match Speedster build 1's powerplant. Scalextric Sport 9t pinion and Slot It 28t crown transfer the power.

Runs well with good handling and straight line speed.

Body work is next.

Opened up the driver cockpit cover. Salvaged a somewhat triangulated roll bar from another 356 build.

Primer's next. Thinking of a black finish with double silver stripes.

As usual Dan , the chassis looks great, as does the car.
Do you use a template for the chassis builds or straight to the jig ?

Hi Bob,

I just set up the honeycomb jig plate for each new chassis build.

Lately I've had problems with matching left and right wheelbases with builds that require scratch built front axle set ups. So now I position an already "square" chassis beside and run long 3/32" piano wire through the front and rear axle tubes or bushings/oilites. Lining them up has helped reduce my problem.

Later.

Finished.

Went with a monotone look. Sprayed Tamiya TS40 Metallic Black, accented the headlights and rollbar in Tamiya Lin Gray brush paint and layed down double stripes with silver Pactra trim tape.

Runs well, too.

Another good outcome.

Very nice build. I love the chassis work, combo of plastic and brass to show all the varieties that can be done.
The black/silver is always a nice look too.
