Dave.. Thanks for posting the finished super bell front end..just a quick word on the build . The axle is bent with a tool a dentist uses to bend the wires on braces. The spindle is a #4 flat washer and a 1/16th axle spacer and fits the cb design wheels the kingpins are just 2 peices of 1/16th brass rod you will need 2 peices for each spindled at the end of the axle is a peice of brass tube the 1/16th rod fits in. I used a peice of flat brazing rod shaped to form the spring. The tierod is the same axle spacer cut down and solder to a 1/16th brass rod at the center of the tierod I used a peice from an old womp chassis where the body pin went..thats the whole thing . now you can build one for your car

That looks great! Now you will have to bend up some deuce rails!

I had given some thought to this stuff a while back, and thought if I could get my hands on one of those Hubley Metal model kits, it would make for a great source of realistic metal axles, spindles, springs, chassis detail parts, plus the chassis rails, etc.

They were kind of pricey on eBay, but a "missing pieces" kit would be the ticket. Ernie traffics in these kind of goods, he might find a 1/24 or 1/32 example...

The other idea was the 1/24 scale high end RC car world.

Another take is work through the super small parts catalogues where they sell impossibly small nuts and bolts, and all sorts of cool connectors and hardware.

Then there is the low heat metal casting guys - so something might be able to be cast from plastic model kit plugs and complementary moulds.

And of course the 3D world where Anything is possible - it seems.

And then there is the *Vintage 1/24* world - Ulrich offered crazy cool *working* independent front suspension with guide flag actuated steering... Over 50 years ago.

Definitely a cool project. I can't wait to see it 'in situ' on a brass chassis, and running laps!

I really should post up some older stuff in the vintage section.

But yeah, that was a great era in slot car collecting and in a lot of ways I feel the work done on this message board, really captures the spirit of that era very well.

...Lots of homemade pieces and attention to scale. Slot car building before the obsession for outright 'thingie' speed.

I agree. That's why this set of topics about steering is such a favorite of mine. Crafting slot car stuff is what I like best.

Besides, I can't see the stupid fast cars at all until they stop, and they are much to look at then!
