What do you guys use to glue cars back together?

Postby Cincyslots » Mon Nov 17, 2014 9:36 am

I've been looking into changing what I use to glue my cars back together after painting. I'm using 2way epoxy at the moment but it seems heavy. What do you guys use?

Forgot about the clear stuff.. I use this:

It's also good for scratchbuilts or repaints to put a dab over blinkers or brake lights to make it look like there is a lens on top of the color..
Goes on milky but dries clear.

Old fashioned Testors model glue. For interior tray re-mounting I use hot glue.

For most things like attaching interiors and wooden body mounting blocks, as well as small repairs, I use GOOP. It has two advantages, its rubbery consistency means it will bend rather than break, and if you need to remove it just get a finger nail under it and pull slowly and it comes cleanly apart. I have also used it to add the lower valence to a body after I cut it from the plastic chassis. It is also my stand-by for sticking drivers to interior trays and gluing in motors.

Thanks for the replies. My cars need to withstand the trauma for Carrera 124 digital racing. I'm going to try the Shoe goo. How long does it take to set? The nice thing about the epoxy is you're onto the next step after 5-10 mins.

I use the same Testors for my windows/lights. I use hot glue and superglue (not together....or at least not intentionally  ) for other construction. I recently switched from Locktite Auto grade super glue to Gorilla; even though I don't use it on clear parts the Locktite seemed to "gas out" more and fog up windows on a completed body.

For me it depends on where I can put glue. If I can I use superglue just because 9 times out of 10 it won't come off. But for those areas where some glue may peek through I use Testors model glue.

The toughest thing used to be clear parts, but someone posted on here a few months back a nice trick. Dip the clear parts in Future and then once it dries you can superglue it on without worrying about the fog that shows up. It works and with superglue the glass is glued on in about 5 seconds.

I use Shoe Goo for body posts and once I put it on I don't touch it for about 8 hours. You could probably touch it within an hour but it will still be relatively flexible and I've always been concerned about it not bonding well enough when it is like that.

I like Formula 560 Canopy glue. Water based so easy clean up. Doesn't damage paint work or clear parts. Good strong cure. And it can be taken apart again it required. I've been using it to put kits and repaints back together for the last 4 years and never had one spontaneously return to kit form yet.

Not the same as the Testors I can get.
