TR3 Triumph finished

Postby btaylor » Fri Nov 14, 2014 7:33 pm

Got my TR done tonight, track time tomorrow! Had few issues with the door seams as you can see  Not a real big issue as it is a racer. Slim can motor, racer wheels and tires, parts box guide?, modified plastic chassis with Carrera pod.Lindberg body M/T Driver head and parts box torso, homemade windscreen and decals. turned out OK I think.Image

Home run, Bob! :text-bravo: :auto-checkeredflag: Having owned 2 of the 1:1 car over the years you captured it pretty well. Are those Racer or BRM wheels? Hopefully you did not use the factory original Lucas wiring  Color me envious!

Thanks Guys! Kind of a neat little car really, The chassis ran good when I tested it without the body, but ill run it Sat, to be sure and final tuning.
Those wheels are racers, I just like them best, and I found a good price on them.
And no "Prince of Darkness" wiring on this one! Not a big Lucas fan, and positive earth goes against all that is Holy in theAutomotive world!

Looks great.

If I may make a suggestion with the panel lines? Try a watery brown like a burnt umber rather than black. The black comes up very heavy.

Thanks Lynne, I will certainly try that. I used one of the .01 Nanoliners to do that, and I am not very steady handed.
I am working on getting the little details better, and suggestions like yours are VERY helpful.

Try a very watery paint wash and a fine brush. You won't need to follow the lines. Load the brush and apply it to the panel crevice and the paint will flow along of its own accord. A tissue can be used to blot any areas of overflow.

Rob, burnt umber or Payne's grey will both work. I'd use raw umber on a red car. I'd even use a dark blue in some instances. But black is a no go zone for me. Unless I'm painting a black car.

Ok, I'll try to explain the colour choices. It is down to colour theory. I tend to use the opposite colour (on a colour wheel) for shadows. That's why when painting those heads I tend to use blue for shadows. The direct opposite will tone the colour down without making it muddy. Adding black to something just makes a dirty colour. So for shadows on a red I'll use a greenish tone. Orange tends to blue in shadows. Green will cast warm shadows. For yellow you can use a purplish tone.

Google a colour wheel if it will help. It doesn't have to be a strong or intense version of the colour, just a leaning toward it. Burnt umber is a warm brown, raw umber a greenish one.

Ember, is it to late to tone down the black on this car with your process?, The more I look at it the less I like the stark black lines!

Thanks, I did not know they offered a brown Nano, The Racer wheels are correct, its the Lindberg body that is out of scale. The wires look great on the Monogram cars as they are pretty true to scale as far as I know.
These are the ones I use, but they are available from Cloverleaf too.

Sorry, the best suggestion over the black would be another spray coat of colour. The black would work as part of the undercoating process.
