I wanted to improve the looks along with performance on this latest Group 5 whale.

Image

I chose these tires as they have a larger diameter and have the rounded sidewalls.

Image

They slip over the Slot.it 17x8 wheels perfectly. (17.3 x 8.2 PA18)

Image

I needed these tires to have a flush inside sidewall. I could have just sanded them flush to fit like I have done in the past, just wanted to try these and see how they fit from the bag to the car.

Image

This is the main reason for the flush mount. On these anglewinders, the pinion is very close to rubbing the inside. These tires have plenty of clearance and that is what I wanted.

Image

For me it helps the scale appearance of the car and the grip is ideal for my track surface.

Just an option if you were thinking about improving both.

Those do look better on the car and I know it probably handles much better too. That thing needs some paint on it though send it down my way and I will see what I can do...

You are good at that. Maybe add a couple of olives to this Martini? :)

So Harry
How do you like the car over all? Been looking to get one to add to my line of 911 style of car

I like it just fine, still tuning on it and likely swap out this motor for something milder.

The car is more for the competition crowd of course, but I am enjoying the car more than I thought.

After coffee, let me add more as I know you will appreciate it.

I like my Carrera version. Of course I need to work on it a little more.

But tools like a Razor or any other machine for that matter are meant to be used. After a session on the machine and some PG tires, the car runs fine.

The Racer is not really designed for my smaller track, so some tuning has helped it. Just keep in mind this whale has plenty of power :)

think it might do good on a commercial track with a wood guide? Or motor up?
I really like the lines, As for my Carrera Moby I only have run it a couple of times on my short track and was not impressed, even helping out with it on the "no brakes" thread. It still needs something won't know till I try out some other "tuning" tricks! Looks like there is another Racer in my future!

I think it would be right at home on that kind of track.

Nice write up Boss!!

I especially like the close up pic that shows how little room there is between the gear and the tire.

Thanks guys.

Here is the shim you need that sets the gear mesh the best for me.

Image

The shim that comes in the car is too thick. The smallest shim shown above helps a great deal.

Harry

I have had my Porsche for a while now and love it. With a little tuning the car is a great handling and quick car. I used the 1403 tires on the rears as it gave a little more room between the tire and body of the car. I spent more time on getting the gear mesh right than I did on the rest of the car. I have found this to be true for all the Group 5 cars..

Yes, the car is for the more serious racer but it does run great on the smaller tracks. I race on a routed 60 foot 10 turn road course and to others other small routed tracks and with the stock flat 6 motor the car runs and handles great. The fact that we run all our classes at 10 volts might have something to do with that.

If your sitting on the fence and wondering should I get it or not .. Go for it you will love this car.

Thanks for the feedback. Good hearing your report on the voltage, that is always a good idea if you have the option.
