Gunze Sangyo meets Monogram

So for the next zippertop, Mr. Derby City hooked me up with a great kit: The 59 Chevy Impala



This is a great kit. Interesting that it is made to have a front motor & batteries. But, we don't care much for that in this project.



The body is fantastic.

Since I used a Carrera for the first one, this time I wanted to use the Monogram NASCAR chassis that is allowed in this series.

This chassis is easy as pie to fit the wheelbase. The rectangular tabs they use can be trimmed and allow you to move the front bulkhead back and forth to set the desired wheelbase.



I just cut these in tab/washer form. You could just trim it to sit perfect, but this worked just as well.



Good enough for me :)

Time to start the body mount process once I finish setting up the running gear.

Man I love that Impala! Those were just great looking cars with those fins on the back. I need to find one of these. :dance:

I don't know, never measured it. Not an issue really, it fits the chassis and looks right for my taste.

Here is what I did to the interior tub in order to use it.



Just your basic cut and test fit routine until it clears.



I temporarily installed the interior with just a small drop of hot glue on each corner. Easily removed with your Exacto knife afterwards. I did this to test the fit and to adjust the height and rake of the body for mounting. More on that later.

Your causing trouble, Boss…….unless somebody is well stocked with this kits.
I did their T-Bird years ago and used the kit chassis with a Fly pod. Runs great.
Seems it could use a partner.

You are correct, the Fury is off in the width. Shade too skinny and yes, it will look rather odd next to others. Not by a lot, but on a car like that it stands out.

I placed this next to my other Monogram NASCARS and it looks great.

Jesla....what a cool way to make it work. Yeah, these kits are hard to find today for sure. Just thought others might be interested just in case they score one.

For those looking to source one of these kits try Hobby Link Japan. Can't recall the URL off the top of my head, but you should be able to find the with Google. Gunze also do a Nomad, Bel Air, T'bird and a few others of a similar ilk. Been stockpiling them against future abilities.

I love the tail fins on that Impala. This should turn out great.
