It allows the chassis to move independently of the body, The chassis will flex a bit, and the body, which may have a bit of warp will not effect the equal planting of tires on track. Further, it allows the body to shift just a bit on acceleration, planting the traction tires, which lessens the likelihood of a spin. Its a little mysterious, David, but it does directly effect the performance of the car, the heavier the body, the more effect.
