Yep. I use silicone O-rings I get 100 at a time. I had an old Harbor Freight selection box of O-rings that allowed me to pick and choose for the size I wanted. I just bought 100 of that size and I've been using them ever since. Its particularly good on Carrera NASCAR Talledega Torinos and Chargers. Get the right size and its no longer necessary to sand off the socket for the mounting post on the chassis. The O-ring fits right in the socket, and you adjust the body height on the body posts.

Dave, you could try rubber bands. The big red and tan ones that they use at the post office. They work great because they're soft. You're bound to find variations in the thickness.

It allows the chassis to move independently of the body, The chassis will flex a bit, and the body, which may have a bit of warp will not effect the equal planting of tires on track. Further, it allows the body to shift just a bit on acceleration, planting the traction tires, which lessens the likelihood of a spin. Its a little mysterious, David, but it does directly effect the performance of the car, the heavier the body, the more effect.

Hi Peter

I find that the cars corner better and thus can be pushed a little harder (faster lap times) if there is a little bit of body float. I think the principle is body float acts a bit like suspension allowing the body to dip when cornering and thus transfer the weight better than if the body was rigid on the chassis. I think the idea is that with the body floating on the chassis the weight of the body doesn't have as much of an impact on the chassis when cornering as it would if firmly attached to the chassis. I try to incorporate float in all my cars, I find with the older classic cars that they have higher clearance than modern cars and thus a higher centre of gravity. The float helps to counter these factors as well.

I usually sand the side of the chassis and look for any body or chassis lugs that might rub up against each other.

I think this is more of an advantage with non magnet driving/racing.

I am sure others will chime in and offer suggestions and perhaps correct in misconceptions I have

On a wood track or even plastic with no magnet, I cannot say enough about getting some float. Even on cars with valance panels molded onto the chassis, I'll sometimes separate those, glue them back on to the body and then radius the chassis and open up the mounts for the float. HUGE difference. These rubber spacers would really work nice too!
