Made a set of wheels for my COT

Let me try this again. I uploaded the pictures to my photo bucket account to link them here.

I bought a lathe a few months back and finally got around to making a set of wheels. I wanted to make a set for a carrera COT so I could have that dirt shield look and also for those times when a COT or other pressed on wheel get knocked off center. They turned out pretty good. I think I will make another set and also turn down the knurl on the axel. My first set are drilled to fit over the knurl but it was hard to get the fit I wanted, even so they seemed really smooth.

A bit more info for anyone who wants more...

I turned them down from 6061 aluminum round stock. The set screw is 4-40 and I had just enough room on the shoulder for it. I didn't want to use anything smaller. I was actually going to drill the hole for the set screw right in the middle of the wheel under the tire but the axel didn't look like it would be long enough to reach to the center.

We had so much cold and snow, but the thing that ALWAYS gets to me is when March arrives and old man winter doesn't seem to want to let go! Finally the last few days have been GREAT! I just came in from the shop and had the overhead door open! It is 70 outside right now, love it!

If its that good in Des Moines, it must be pretty good in Davenport right about now. My old stomping grounds.

Great job Jim.
I picked up a small lathe a couple of years ago to do small odds and ends.
Make some of my own wheels, and quite happy when I get them the way I want.
There is just something about making your own stuff.
That sense of pride in accomplishment.
Well done
Bob

That is seriously cool that you were able to make your own! I'm impressed!
