Simple wheel swap upgrade

I have always found it amazing how upgrading to a aftermarket wheel on a 1:1 car can make such a difference in the way it looks. Well the same thing applies to our little cars too. I have really become a big fan of the Slot It Toyota 88c cars but at first they really didn't appeal to me, that is until I got one of them. Harry and I have both asked each other what is it about these cars that make them so appealing to us. They pretty much have a straight body past the front fenders and nothing spectacular as far as lines of the car go.

One of the things that I always didn't like about the Slot It version of this car were the wheels inserts. They just don't look like the real thing. Anyway with that said, I had an idea to try some of the CB Design 5 spoke wheels from SCC. The first car I did was the white #98 car. I used the 15x8 classic 5 spokes on the front and 15x8 racing 5 spokes on the rear with 1403ry Yellow Dog tires.(I originally had the 15x8 classic 5 spokes on the rear) The racing wheels are a much deeper wheel than the classic 5 spokes.





So now on to the next one I did, I had planned to do this to the Taka-Q car even before I purchased one, but after doing the white car I finally got around to doing it the other day. Again on the front I used CBD 15x8 classic 5 spokes but on the rear this time I went with the CBD 15x10 classic 5 spokes. The stock rears do fit on these but I will upgrade them to PG 20125 tires soon. I painted the wheels on this car white, once dry I put them on my Tire Razor and using the blade of my exacto knife I took the paint off the lip of the wheels only leaving the center section white to try and copy the look of the wheels on the actual race car. I really like how these came out and it looks much better than the stock inserts. A simple upgrade that makes these cars look even better in my opinion, and it gives you another another excuse to buy more parts from SCC. :D

WOW! The back cut white on the taka Q wheels REALLY make those babies stand out! VERY nice! :D

That effect looks sharp on the wheels on the Mustang as well! :D

ListerStormGT, you have rawked my world! Until I saw the pics of your 88C with the wheel upgrade, I honestly had never given much thought to doing such a thing. (I say "much thought", because there are exceptions to everything. And I did buy, a Ninco C1 quire some time ago, decked out in street trim, that I have given serious thought to upgrading wheels and tires.) But again, on my "race cars" the thought never crossed my mind, because race cars already have racing wheels, so why mess with 'em? Then, a few days ago, I saw your 88C decked out with those 5 spokes and WOW, WOW, WOW! Eye popping for sure. Now, I am anxiously awaiting, the arrival of one set, (I plan to order a 2nd set, down the road).

It's like they say, "Nothing looks like metal, but metal". True it does add a cost to cars, but they payoff in performance and roundness. More round, less bounce. :)

What I like seeing is taking the time to paint/detail a wheel. The Stang looks mighty fine Ken, although I can't really tell this far away. Just mail it on in before a 1/32 tree falls on it. :)

It's all a matter of personal taste like anything else. One of my personal pet peeves are wheels. They do not have to be perfect, just close. Adding paint and that touch of shine gives them a great effect. Marty has the right idea on the Revogram...sigh...a stable of them that I think are better off with a new chassis, but that is another story for later :)
