I agree those chassis' leave a bit to be desired, but if you can get one to work that's all that matters. They very high centered to begin with, so lowering them would be a great idea. Thanks for the tips. I have one or two of them languishing about. :)

Many years ago my friend gave me a ride to buy a new car. He was driving a s 1275GT. I bought a Downton Cooper S ! So going back home up the M1 in UK at about 75 mph following him, I realized I was running out of fuel so , approaching a service station I flashed my lights to indicate we needed to turn into the service station. He did not change his driving style so I simply put my foot on the gas and blew by and turned into the service station. He has never forgiven me for that.

1275GT? Not a poor man's Cooper S, a posers Cooper S.

A few years back I bought a handfull of the old Scaley Minis from the previous era (no chassis at all, just running gear snapped into the body), that had been boxed up and forgotten at a dealer. I've been threatening to do something with them ever since. The bodies themselves have all kinds of potential.

They do have potential. I built a couple of them. One had a brass and wire chassis which I sent to Lee, and the other had brass plate chassis which I sent to Bruce. I found one that I have, and I know there's at least one or two more. :)

Hey RM is the real MINI a result of too much lowering. Looks like they run the wheels off of it. :lol: I have a couple of those Johnson motored beasts, just the epitome of bad chassis design. The motor is a mile off the track. No wonder they don't handle for beans. :shock:

The Johnson powered ones can be improved if the motor mounting tags are removed and the front mount cut through. Then using a set up plate position the motor horizontal and lined up to the rear axle before hot glueing it in place. This combined with tubing the front axle and lowering the guide as above makes a big difference to the performance while retaining the look of the car.
