That is very cool. I didn't know that Aurora had made 1/32 scale cars. I understand that it's supposedly a prototype, but check out that price!

The Hot Glue holding the body on is a big RED FLAG but doesn't mean the body is not genuine.

I know I saw one of these kits built up years ago at a model show. I found a picture of the box on a model site.Image

Definitely a kit bash. I don't ever remember K&B doing anything like this, as that is a K&B chassis. Price is totally ridiculous. Just about anybody could do the same thing, but much cheaper. ;)

I have to admit, I remember that model in the hobby shops. We laughed at them, thinking that grownups were impossibly uncool, and had no idea what we (the most important people on earth), would want to buy.

That was just about the time Aurora changed their box logo design. The box in that photo is very faded.

Well,it may be the big kid in me ,but I think Scalextric will have a huge hit with these Derby sets as long as the chassis will take the abuse. No matter how serious we get into this hobby,we still are playing with toy cars! :)

If I may offer a bit of personal experience with the "Aurora Demolition Demon"...

That Aurora kit came out in the mid-60's, as I recall. As soon as it hit the shelves, one of the slot car magazines of the time did an article titled "Bad-mobile". (The name being a take off of the "Batmobile" that was popular at the time.) The article mated a K&B chassis to the body. However, I think I recall the conversion used an interior tray from one of the Aurora/K&B 1/32 bodied cars, like the GTO as a way to mount the body to the K&B chassis.

Anyway, I made one and it turned out great (for a 14-15 year old kid). I used mine as an oval dirt track car and ran it to death. This was the first K&B "Challenger" chassis car for me, and I liked the way they were made (easily adjustable wheelbase) and they were fast for a home set car... so I ended up purchasing more for other conversions.

So... there you have it!

EDIT:

Took a look at the Scalextric Derby video. Looks like a remake of Eldon's "Crash Jalopies" figure 8 set from the 60's. However, I think the Eldon's were better executed. "Way back when" I purchased one of those Eldon sets at a blow-out price and it was surprisingly a lot of fun! Wish I still had it.
