Thanks for your replies all. This and vacuforming are an interesting aspect of the hobby that I have not explored. I fully expect to get my vacuum box working this winter, I have assembled all of the parts. I just need to put them together. My hobby world largely closes down during the summer months when my teacher wife is on vacation. Not that I am complaining. Really I just exchange my modeling hobby in for my traveling and hiking hobbies for a few months. Even talks about my method , I like that, as it indicates I'm not the only one crazy.
He makes some very good points in there to.
I was away for the weekend, at a friends, and he was using an electric bbq lighter for his charcoal.
Of course my mind went straight to a heating unit for vacuum former lol.
But the steak brought me back to reality.

I just heard on the news today that there is now 3d printing with glass, anyone else hear about it.
Although glass may not be for us. I wonder if 3d clear plastic is possible with good result.

Yes 3d printing has come a long way. I saw a news piece awhile back about a company that made custom hip replacement joints. They laid down 3d titanium joints using MRI scans as the digital data that tells the computer what to do. Custom fitted body parts made ahead of surgery day.

I cast windows and lamp covers with clear epoxy.
I do not use vacuum or pressure.
It works bubble-free because the epoxy has a much longer curing time ( pot life ) than urethane, so the few bubbles can fume.
It is less convenient to work with because of the mix ratio that is really hard to keep with the small amounts one needs for those little parts. But it works.

I suppose having a large numbers of molds ready to pour would prudent for using any extra material. What material do you use for your molds Roland?
