IMG_20190802_202136.jpgI won this on eBay the other day ,seem to have a fettish for threaderd axles and 36d's. On looking at the motor I noticed these hacksaw slicer's on the arm which I'm wandering if this was normal practice rather drilling to balance back in the day ? I don't have a tac but give it 14v and revved out quite well!IMG_20190802_202113.jpgIMG_20190802_221100.jpg

Yes, this is reasonably common. Balanced armatures back in the day had various markings....I have one that actually has the lower edge of three stack plates filed off. Whatever it took to balance, especially when home rewinding was popular.
Drilling is easier, now.

Yep. Armature balancing was an absolute necessity after rewinding. My old rewinding jig had instructions that included balancing as a last step before reassembly.

Thank you for your replies, I was a bit worried it had been ruined by someone that didn't know what they were doing.the motor had been soldered in ,but has broken out on closer inspection the chassis was made for a ft16d not the 36d.
