Looks like that is the body that comes with his kit. The stand alone body still has the hump.

Man this is great stuff. I love this era of cars. I was just llooking on Sunday at the kits on Electric Dreams. Way to much money? i have been wanting to do a Birdcage and a Scaeab for sometime. now so I'm in also. I''l go check them out on the bay. Jim

Jim, That Scarab would be a great candidate for one of the brass chassis that you boys have been doing.

On another note, I have a good proper 1/32 scale vacuform Birdcage body ( I think it is K&B) that might be something that would be good to lift a silicon mold from. It is the same one that was the source for the red fiberglass body in my picture above. Is there anyone out there who knows how to slosh cast who might be interested in producing some bodies? I would donate the body for that purpose.

They are different cars Bob. Scarab was an American company based in California. Cooper was a British Company. The mid engine Scarab was V8 powered from the beginning. The Cooper Monaco started out as a small bore class, 4 cyl race car and converted later to V8 power by several racers including Carroll Shelby. His King Cobra was a modified Cooper.

I actually knew that about the cooper origin, but wasnt sure if it was like the AC bristol, Englander turned Americanized.
and just renamed when converted.

I'm no historian on the subject but I don't think that Cooper and Shelby ever had an integrated such as the one that Shelby had with AC Bristol. A lot of people were looking for small mid engine sports cars to add V8 power for competition in the USRRC events of the early 1960's. Coopers were readily available so a lot of people began modifying them, including Shelby. The mid engine Scarab also raced in that series.

I am sure you know way more than i do about those cars. I really have just recently started to research them.I suppose that in 1;1 scale, there are enough differences between the two cars to see that they are not sharing a parentage, but i have not had that opportunity. (wish i could!) Making determinations based on scale slot cars is not a wise thing to do given the liberties taken by the manufacturers! and factoring in the small changes made to the actual cars from year to year, really complicates things. But thanks for clearing that up Mike, it is fascinating to find out about these beautiful old cars.
