The Bilby still lives :)

Just wanted to say hello to this part of the HRW board, very nice, little bit quiet but thats ok!

I'm just kicking off in 1/24 scale drag racing, a total novice in this part of the hobby but hopefully Ill learn as I go :)

Looking forward to getting back into my local club scene as well.....

Hey Guys and thank you for your encouragement :)

As Harry and Jeremy may be aware Ive had a very interesting "holiday" from slots over recent times culminating in me breaking my back in a motorcycle accident a month ago.

The expectations are positive for a decent recovery, but I wont be riding again, kinda like having my having my body function the way it should :)

Hence the rationale behind exploring another facet of our hobby!

I still love my 1/32 scale plastics, but what drew me to 1/24 drags is my love for US muscle, I can now indulge my passion in plastic kit form with the added advantage of actually tuning the little buggers as well :)

My friend Pete Richards (Richo99 here at HRW) hosts the drag racing at his home (Nomad Raceway and Hobbies). Of all slot racing here in our home town drag racing appears to be the most popular, very good numbers turn up turn up to club racing.

The track is a beauty, a scale 1/8th mile, voltage is lower than commercial tracks which is a bonus as motors last for ages.

Pete has formulated a variety of classes with a view to keep costs down, motors are various Plafit or 16D's which is great.

Anyway, Pete and I will post some pics and info up when we can, its a very interesting little niche of our hobby and quite popular too.

Oh, Ted, I will be doing archery again after my back heals up, the short of it is I ended up gaining my Masters ranking in the division I shoot in (a lifelong goal) and was ranked top 5 in my zone which would probably put me in the top 10 Nationally (Zone D has the best shooters in Australia for our division). Still more to come on that scene but for now its about US muscle cars in slot form :)

Still got the one on my right side too! Thats just over four weeks now.

Anyway, the Big Guy upstairs was looking after me, I am healing up well, getting around ok now, the Doctors think Ill be right to go back to work in a couple of months.

Jon, dont forget about that chassis jig buddy! Give me a yell when you've got that batch done and Ill get some dollars over to you for it :)

......been busy doing some 1/24 drag parts shopping, bought some built cars to get me started plus a couple of Parma Edge chassis for the slower classes.

Also got some plastic kits ('71 Plymouth Duster and '64 Falcon Sprint, two of my favourites).

Am dragging out my old miller compressor and badger brushes too, plus bought this neato mini spray booth off EBay.

Am pretty excited, this genre of our hobby adds a whole new dimension to things for me, tuning, painting, chassis building, heaps to learn (and remember!).

I'll put some posts up once I get myself organised :)

Welcome back Rob. Really sorry to hear about the accident but glad the recover is coming along slowly.

Of course some of the best shooters in Zone D. That's because of all the retired Victorians that move up there. ;) Does the fact that you achieved your goal mean you're going to throw away the expensive and complicated trinket and start using a real bow?

We welcome all Victorians to our fair land, not so keen on the blue people though, Id say let them enjoy the overpriced state they created for themselves...

I was all geared for the Nationals at Hervey Bay this Easter but wont be going now, will probably head south next year and fly the flag for Athens Archery in mens barebow (no more Masters either their revised grades finish at A grade now like IFAA.

Ember, Ive actually started getting some more timber bows. Picked up a 40lb Border "mirage" 70" target bow and an old 55lb Hoyt Pro-Hunter recently.

We are thinking of giving that new trad peg class a try at club when we have a bit of time to spare :)

Ive watched them shooting off it at tournaments last year, seems like pretty good fun and those Border mirages would be absolute tack drivers at that range...

I'll post some pics soon of these 1/24 drag cars, they look so cool!

I got a Revell model from 2007 of a 55 Chevy Pro Stock its 1:25 scale, looks like its all there
I will have jigs ready end of next week

Yes all going well so far, getting a little bored, learning all this new stuff will keep me occupied :)

Those Bilby's are very elusive little critters, they only come out at night, the only time Ive ever seen them is at night when they are crossing the road (I live out in the bush).

Need a body for Sportsman class, that will do nicely :)

I bought a new pre-built '57 but will probably use that one in Superstock. Those 55-57 Chevs always look great as drag cars for some reason!

Hey John,

Ill get some photos up soon, my first project will be a Arlen Vanke Duster on an Edge chassis, breakout for the class is a 1.400 on the scale 1/8th mile. I'll be using a Plafit motor (whatever the smallest one is) for it, this is our clubs slowest class.....

Got some more exotic gear lined up for the quicker classes ('58 "Christine" Pro-Mod body included!).

Stay tuned, may be amusing as i muddle my way through all this new gear and work out which way is "up" :)
