Well since I got to reading up on the ol' strip, I've had an interest in it.Had the chance a couple of weekends ago to walk part of the return/road course. Now we hope to check out what is left of the strip before it is all tore up.
I felt the need to make a permanent place for my copy of the Shutdown Republic tools Drag strip.
So thought we would make a tribute to the now closed strip.Still have a ways to go.Will be making Bleachers,Stairs,Concessions building and such.Tried to copy the main structure, the timing tower ,as close as possible. If your interested in the ol' strip check out
http://www.lakelandraceway.com/We will mainly be running 1/40 or so cars, but can also run 1/32.
Just for fun...
Here a jet car still in primer is running against the twin motored Will E. Lee's

Looks like fun.
Is that a big block of foam at the far end, to stop the cars smashing themselves against the wall?
David.

Hey David,it is a Cigar box with padding to cushion the stop. With the box,the cars stay on track so they can reverse..Most of the time... ;)

Thanks Mark, that is one car that will be added for sure.
Come on down Harry. Bibbster and his Ms tried it out yesterday..
Sad to say the ol' Boys reaction time just ain't what it used to be..... ;)
While this thing is a big ol' toy,you would be surprised at how mixed up one can get while shifting..

Sadly no pics.
But….remember the drag strip was the front straight
for the course USAC used to run the Memphis 200.
I could see you expanding to include the Road Course.

Wow,cool cars Wayne!
Hoos, man let me know when ya'll get the bodies going.I've got to have that 55.
Plus, even with my limited talent,I can at least paint one in primer :)
Jesla, yep she was a road course too.Much on the road course is still there, though badly grown over.
Our little track is located in our jam room,so as of now, that is about all of the space we have.
Unless we get ride of the drums. :)
