1/24 Dodge Dart "Hemi Thunder"....

Postby Cosmic Bilby » Tue Mar 04, 2014 9:08 pm

G'day Guys,

Just thought I'd share a few pictures of my first 1/24th scale drag car, this model is an ex-States car.

Its a Dodge Dart body, Falcon 7 motor, Sonic 64 Pitch gears, Pro-Track wheels and wire chassis.

The rear wheelie bars needed to be shortened to 4" from back of axle (were 5"). Im new to chassis soldering, made a hash of it, one of the guys at Nomad Raceway (Dave), got it all back together again and added a bar that braced between the motor and chassis for some more rigidity.

End result was a .983 on the scale 1/8th mile @ 12 volts without goo (we run without goo, the tyres are cleaned with shellite after every run).

Very happy with this one, it will be used in Nomad Raceways "Dial your own" class.

Thanks Mick!

Hopefully my paint will work out as well as that one, the guy I bought it off did a great job :)

Ran well too on our track at the Test and Tune the other night, Pete thought it was pretty cool!

Thanks H!

Really love them, can run my US muscle car stuff to my hearts content now :)

Still a weaner when it comes to building them though! Razor Jon is sending over a jig for me, this should help a heck of a lot, its a great product and will make a lot easier for me.....

Harry I had my first class win at club last week! It was in Pro-Stock class, I was using one of Daves cars (Pete and Dave build some beautiful models that run hard). There are a few classes to cover so i will be a little while getting my "fleet" organised, all good fun though and heaps of people to race against :)

It looks like scale drag racing is going to be the next big thing over here in slot cars!

A couple of tricks to make it go faster. When you hit the go button did the rear end step out to the left or the right? To the left means you need to lose weight off the rear axle assembly (including wheels/tyres). To the right means you need to lose weight off the arm (or change gear ratio).

Try and bias the weight towards the rear. Traction = u x m x g. u is fixed if you have to run a given tyre. g is fixed even in Queensland. Maximise m over the rear tyres if you have to run a min weight.

Good luck with it.

cheers

What are you running for a chassis? When you get your jig let me know. If your using the inexpensive WRP type I can show you with a few things assembling it to get it good and strait.

Thanks Guys :)

Love this car!

Jon, its a WRP in-line chassis with solid wire rails, Falcon 7 motor and Sonic 64 pitch gears, very, very ordinary under the body but wow!

Looking forward to getting the chassis jig, will make my life a heap easier mate! Got a couple of chassis kits to break it in with as well :)

I ran it in club last night in "Dial your own" class. Short of it was it ran a .941 on the 1/8th, the only cars equal to it were the pair of Pete Richards Falcon powered rails (one went quicker, the other ran the same time exactly!).

Kurt, I look at my new interest in our hobby as good "diversionary therapy"! While my back heals up I can indulge in all the scale US muscle car fantasy I desire, and hopefully learn something along the way and pick up a new skills set within our hobby (chassis soldering!).

Wait until you see the next pair of cars that arrived from the States this week :) I'll post some pictures shortly, two Chevy's, a late 70's Camaro and a 57 Chev Pro-Stock/Pro-Mod. Intensely beautiful, pretty close to faultless, very well built chassis in them as well, these pair won't be destined for outright speed, but set-up as bracket cars to meet our clubs rules.

Also will be starting the first of my own builds, my education continues..... :P
