LOL, that's a mood breaker.
That hard packed dirt brings back memories. Infield full of folks like the stands.

Was that just the track lights or the whole area?
Belle Clair would have died had POWRi stepped forward.
The last midget race had a good crowd for a change but completely ran out of food and drink on one of the hottest nights of the year. Forty eight midgets ran that night.

It only looked like there were two cars on the track, I guess they had not run long enough the catch up with the tail end of the field before the lights went out. I was at a race once when just the track lights got knocked out. That was at Thompson Speedway in the late '60s. The track is a high banked 5/8th mile paved oval. There was only a wall in front of the grandstand, the rest of the track only had piles of dirt around it. There was a midget track in the infield and that had lights, the main track was only used during daylight hours, but they finally installed lights for night racing. On that night two cars tangled on the backstretch and one of them went off the track and hit a light pole. There was a shower of sparks from the shattered lamps and the track went dark. The pole was not knocked over and a crew was able to get the lights repaired so racing could resume. There is an iconic picture of a car hitting one of the light poles in the infield, I was there the day that happened.

They just went green after a caution. The whole field was right behind the in-car camera. (about 18 cars)
I was in the stands, & it was just as black as the video for 30 seconds 'till my eyes adjusted & I still could barely make out anything.
Remarkable nobody hit anything. Kenny Schrader & Kenny Wallace were both in the race. The track announcer found Wallace in his car
& asked him what he thought. First thing he said was "Holy s****" ! It took 45 minutes for all the track lights to come back.

I was playing in goal during a hockey game when the lights went out.Everyone on the ice started to shout "don't shoot !!!" :scared-eek: Fortunately it was only a practice we left the ice and called it quits and we all went home.
