Fleck, I'm a bit of a newcomer here,but I rather think you've come to the right place.

There doesn't seem to be huge interest in oval racing in the UK, although there are a few "Slotstox" clubs where they race very heavy,usually metal stock cars in a bit of a 'demolition derby' fashion.

I started off wanting to build an oval with UK 50s and 60s style stock cars in 1/32.I've slowly amassed a supply of suitable bodies, but then I discovered sprint cars. I've been a bit disappointed to find that there isn't much on offer in strictly 1/32, unless you build it yourself.

I've motorised some Sprint Bandits, which seem pretty close to 1/32. I'm in the middle of trying to scratchbuild some sprint chassis from brass tube. Hence the quest to find something a bit more reproducible.

You mention you wondered whether there would be demand for custom-built oval racers (or, I would say, components).

Just look through the Oval racing section here on HRW . . . is the sky blue?

If you are into making them 1/32 scale, What wheelbase are you looking for?

I'm looking at 88inches.

I've got someone working on CAD drawing of chassis components for 1/32.

I think I have cutting lined up once CAD file is done, but no word yet on likely cost.

I was thinking about brass or nickel silver possibly 1mm.

I'm not sure spring steel is necessary for the much smaller 1/32 cars; and there is the additional issue of tempering it after cutting.

I did even wonder whether plastic might work.

But I'm no engineer - I guess that's obvious!

I'm a bit in limbo at the moment,as the chap who's doing the drawing for me has got busy at work - and when someone is doing you a favour, you can't really hassle them.

The originals were spring steel, but exactly what spec., I don't know.

There is a member called DAVE, who regularly posts here, who seems to know a lot about JK chassis.He might know the exact original specification.

The original 1/24th chassis were laser cut from pre-hardened .047 thick 1095 spring steel. For
a 1/32nd chassis I would use .032 think material. DO NOT TRY TO HARDEN THE CHASSIS AFTER
CUTTING!!!! The different cross sectional profiles will make it impossible to harden the parts
evenly. You need a vacuum furnace to do it. Pre-hardened 1095 is readily available anywhere.
David; Over on your side of the pond I would go with Schmoltz and Bickenbach or Uddeholm
as suppliers. Or you might have a local industrial supply which stocks tool steels.
