Our so-called love\/hate relationship with them goes back many years. Some cars were stars, some never shined. Models like this March, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.homeracingworld.us\/Reviews\/2016\/FlySlotBrabham\/Flyslot%20Brabham%20BT%2044.html\">recent Brabham<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.homeracingworld.com\/flyslotlotus78.htm\">Lotus 78 <\/a>which uses the traditional (and much preferred) inline configuration are the ones I feel are worth the tuning effort. Other releases <a href=\"http:\/\/www.homeracingworld.us\/Reviews\/2014\/FlyslotWilliams\/FlyslotWilliams.htm\">such as the Williams<\/a>\u00a0are almost useless due to the drivetrain and inability to even secure replacement parts.<\/p>\n<p>After tuning the Brabham as shown in the review, this model needed the same. The one thing I am changing is the motor. The gear is set for a 2mm shaft and without the sleeve, the entire rear axle can have excess side to side freeplay. Slot Car Corner carries <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slotcarcorner.com\/1-32-Slot-Car-Parts-by-Type-\/Motors\/Slim-Can-Motor-Shaft-Sleeve-1-5mm-ID-p1038.html\">sleeve material here<\/a>. I secure the sleeve with Super Glue.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-667\" src=\"http:\/\/www.homeracingworld.us\/TeamHRW\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/tubecut.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"623\" srcset=\"https:\/\/homeracingworld.us\/TeamHRW\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/tubecut.jpg 800w, https:\/\/homeracingworld.us\/TeamHRW\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/tubecut-640x498.jpg 640w, https:\/\/homeracingworld.us\/TeamHRW\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/tubecut-768x598.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I use a mini miter saw for cutting the tubing. Just a few quick passes and it&#8217;s through. Clean up any flash with small file.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-665\" src=\"http:\/\/www.homeracingworld.us\/TeamHRW\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/sanding.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"616\" srcset=\"https:\/\/homeracingworld.us\/TeamHRW\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/sanding.jpg 800w, https:\/\/homeracingworld.us\/TeamHRW\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/sanding-640x493.jpg 640w, https:\/\/homeracingworld.us\/TeamHRW\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/sanding-768x591.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Next is a session on my Tire Razor. I first sand the wheels then install Paul Gage urethane tires. Repeat the sanding and we have a very smooth axle system.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-661\" src=\"http:\/\/www.homeracingworld.us\/TeamHRW\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/guide1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"642\" srcset=\"https:\/\/homeracingworld.us\/TeamHRW\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/guide1.jpg 800w, https:\/\/homeracingworld.us\/TeamHRW\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/guide1-640x514.jpg 640w, https:\/\/homeracingworld.us\/TeamHRW\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/guide1-768x616.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The final upgrade is a new guide. I disconnect the steering as it&#8217;s basically useless and doesn&#8217;t really provide any added scale realism.
