It might be that this series will be more popular than some enthusiasts have predicited.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style5\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">I will admit I am part of that &#8220;some enthusiasts&#8221;.\u00a0Although the era of the series interests me, I simply did not watch or follow\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">this series back then. For motorsport enthusiasts the series is of course very\u00a0appealing. And from the feedback in our forum, it appears that my own personal\u00a0taste is the minority as most that have chimed in are really looking forward to\u00a0it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style5\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style10\"><strong><em><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">Data At A Glance<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style9\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.homeracingworld.us\/Reviews\/2016\/SlotitDTM\/dtmdata.jpg\" width=\"1000\" height=\"195\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style5\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Some have asked why the car isn&#8217;t 4WD out of the box. The\u00a0reason is that the cost would be higher and thus we have a standard 2WD. That is\u00a0fine by me as I really don&#8217;t care much on this fact. I have heard that a special\u00a0edition boxed version will be produced and it will be 4WD.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style5\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Under the base is a parts bag that has no instructions\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">and a standard wrench for the set screws. It appears to be parts for the 4WD\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">system and digital chip support.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style5\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">My model arrived quickly and safely as usual from Power\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Hobby. My first impressions were positive even though the model doesn&#8217;t quite\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">have the appeal for me. The outside is what I personally have come to expect from\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Slot.it. A very well executed scale effort with an overall appealing finish.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Appealing but not perfect. Perhaps it is just my eyes, but the overall finish\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">seems a bit on the dull side. For a lightweight half-try interior, Slot.it\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">created an exceptional effort.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style5\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-288\" src=\"http:\/\/www.homeracingworld.us\/TeamHRW\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/sidtminterior.jpg\" alt=\"sidtminterior\" width=\"900\" height=\"635\" srcset=\"https:\/\/homeracingworld.us\/TeamHRW\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/sidtminterior.jpg 900w, https:\/\/homeracingworld.us\/TeamHRW\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/sidtminterior-640x452.jpg 640w, https:\/\/homeracingworld.us\/TeamHRW\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/sidtminterior-768x542.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style5\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">I see other brands making almost full interiors\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">that do not look as appealing as this.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style9\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #ff0000;\">Quick Tech Fact:\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Body and interior is only 19 grams. Fully assembled with\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">chassis: 69 grams<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style9\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.homeracingworld.us\/Reviews\/2016\/SlotitDTM\/sidtmfront.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"557\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style9\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.homeracingworld.us\/Reviews\/2016\/SlotitDTM\/sidtmrear.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"570\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style5\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">So although the overall finish is not as shiny as I\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">expected, I am still pleased. The detail level is enough to make me overlook it. Nothing is ever perfect in our hobby, but Slot.it is pretty\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">consistent on producing excellent scale representations. You DTM aficionados out\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">there will come to your own conclusions as always.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style5\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">As a bonus to this review I decided to interview Maurizio\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Ferrari about this car.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style6\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">HRW: &#8220;What the motivation was behind choosing this\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">series?&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style7\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #ff6600;\"><strong>We must thank one of our employee Stefano\u00a0Zannoni, who is an expert in the DTM of this era and whose knowledge was\u00a0indispensable. Classic DTM was hugely popular in Germany but in Italy as well in\u00a01:1 scale, due to Alfa racing and winning. There were a few DTM championship\u00a0races in Italy, as well.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style5\"><em><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">From a slot car perspective, I can easily see this series\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">growing on me. I was not a witness to Group C, Group 5, IMSA, or any of these\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">series back in the day either but it did not stop me from enjoying the slot car\u00a0<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><em>versions of them.<\/em> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style5\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">And I learned a lot about motorsports back then along the way.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">One of those cases where slot cars actually taught me about the prototypes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style2\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\"><em>Under The Hood<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style5\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The biggest surprise to me was the choice of inline\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">configuration. Or perhaps I should say a very welcome one? Of course some\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">racers will not agree but I prefer the simplicity and smoothness an inline model\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">from Slot.it delivers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style9\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.homeracingworld.us\/Reviews\/2016\/SlotitDTM\/sidtmbottom.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"438\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style5\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The reason was simple really.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style6\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">HRW: &#8220;Why inline? Any other changes for this chassis\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">type?&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style7\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Cars are narrow and there&#8217;s no other way to\u00a0position the motor in the chassis. The motor mount hole in the chassis is inline\u00a0only and for this reason the inline pods (Flat6 and Boxer included) were\u00a0modified.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style29\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><strong><em>So INLINE ONLY for this series. Not\u00a0compatible with sidewinder or anglewinder configurations.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style5\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">For our home racing the inline Group C models from\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Slot.it are likely the best all around slot car out of the box. With just a tire\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">change the models perform so smoothly and quietly that it&#8217;s performance is what\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">I have used as a benchmark for many years. There is no excess chatter, therefore\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">no need to alter\/customize the chassis in the pursuit of eliminating it as we\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">have with anglewinder systems.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style5\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">So having this model restricted to inline is more than\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">acceptable to me.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style5\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The motor is the latest from Slot.it and is reported to\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">be 21K in performance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style9\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.homeracingworld.us\/Reviews\/2016\/SlotitDTM\/dtmmotordata.jpg\" width=\"424\" height=\"440\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style5\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">I bench tested this motor with my\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ovalracingworld.com\/TeamHRW\/RPMBench\/rpm1.jpg\">simple RPM\u00a0Test Rig<\/a>. It was consistently turning close to 20K with the <strong>numbers being\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><strong>19,968K as an average<\/strong>. Remember that this is fresh from the box. Any motor will\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">improve slightly as it breaks in. I suspect we will be very close to the rated\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">specifications very soon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style5\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Also remember this is just my simple laser system and to\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">account for margin of error on my part.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style9\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-285\" src=\"http:\/\/www.homeracingworld.us\/TeamHRW\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/sidtmchassis2.jpg\" alt=\"sidtmchassis2\" width=\"900\" height=\"684\" srcset=\"https:\/\/homeracingworld.us\/TeamHRW\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/sidtmchassis2.jpg 900w, https:\/\/homeracingworld.us\/TeamHRW\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/sidtmchassis2-640x486.jpg 640w, https:\/\/homeracingworld.us\/TeamHRW\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/sidtmchassis2-768x584.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style5\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Pretty familiar setup to most veterans. The front axle\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">can be adjusted as usual if you install the set screws yourself. The chassis is\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">digital compatible as well as compatible with the Slot.it light kits. Yet for boxstock, the car ran just fine. Very\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">smooth with no modifications.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style9\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-290\" src=\"http:\/\/www.homeracingworld.us\/TeamHRW\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/sidtmpgtire.jpg\" alt=\"sidtmpgtire\" width=\"900\" height=\"738\" srcset=\"https:\/\/homeracingworld.us\/TeamHRW\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/sidtmpgtire.jpg 900w, https:\/\/homeracingworld.us\/TeamHRW\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/sidtmpgtire-640x525.jpg 640w, https:\/\/homeracingworld.us\/TeamHRW\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/sidtmpgtire-768x630.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style5\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">This my preferred size as it allows me a little extra in\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">diameter for sanding\/truing. This simple change alone made a huge difference for\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">the better in performance. <strong>If you use Quick Slicks silicones<\/strong>, CB34 or CB35 are\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">your best choices.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style5\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Not only is the inline chassis welcomed but I have to say\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">I really like this motor. A milder, better suited powerplant for smaller home\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">tracks and in my book that is a bonus. Even the famed Group C series has me\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">swapping motors, now this one saves me a few dollars more.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style9\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-289\" src=\"http:\/\/www.homeracingworld.us\/TeamHRW\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/sidtmleft.jpg\" alt=\"sidtmleft\" width=\"900\" height=\"399\" srcset=\"https:\/\/homeracingworld.us\/TeamHRW\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/sidtmleft.jpg 900w, https:\/\/homeracingworld.us\/TeamHRW\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/sidtmleft-640x284.jpg 640w, https:\/\/homeracingworld.us\/TeamHRW\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/sidtmleft-768x340.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style5\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">To sum it up? Very nice. Is it your cup of coffee? Only\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">you can answer that. It&#8217;s a model aimed a certain audience to be sure, and in my\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">eyes it should satisfy those who can appreciate not only the car but the era of\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">the series itself.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style5\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Newcomers should take note. Slot.it is one of the best\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">out of the box slot cars you can buy. The price point is more than reasonable\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">given the quality underneath. They are very reliable and fun straight from the\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">box to your track and should provide you with many hours of fun.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style5\"><em><span style=\"font-size: 28px;\">I didn&#8217;t think the car would appeal to me but I was\u00a0<\/span><\/em><em><span style=\"font-size: 28px;\">wrong. The smooth inline system and new motor really hits a home run for my\u00a0<\/span><\/em><em><span style=\"font-size: 28px;\">track and that really increases the appeal of the series for me.
