HRW 1/25th Classic NASCAR Series – The Land Barge Showdown!

This series covers a small time frame in NASCAR history.  We are modeling what we jokingly refer to as “land barges”. Those late 59 to 64 cars that were long, lumbersome, and likely the worst candidates to make a race car with!

But they did it. And some of them did it very well. Watching video of these beasts in action is nothing short of a hoot.

SATURDAY, January 22  – 2022!

*Mail in deadline – 20 JAN*

Please get the models in by this date. It takes time to hold the SHAKEDOWN where we tune and test the models before the race.

Our guidelines are a mix of beginner and veteran modeler skill levels. The goal is simply to get YOU involved in the fun this larger scale has to offer. Hopefully it also motivates you to start more scratch building.

PLEASE log in HERE or register to HRW FORUM dedicated to this series for any questions. USE IT PLEASE!

ALL THE RULES ARE ALSO DISCUSSED IN THE VIDEO BELOW.
PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO WATCH.

ONE CAR ENTRY ONLY.
Entry Fee: None really. If you want to donate to the site, that would be cool. Or help with shipping costs back to you.

The Track:

Our Track – Please click HERE for The Show-Me Speedway in depth look

Show-Me Speedway

5 x 16 foot, 4 lane, routed MDF.
Track Surface: Satin Latex
Lane Spacing: 4 1/16 Inches
Slot Depth: Shade over 10 MM (any commercial or wood guide will clear)
Straight Length: 10 feet.
Rails: Slot Car Corner tinned copper braid.
Power:
Aftermarket 25 AMP

Control:
Standard Professor Motor 2120 Controllers
Timing: TrackMate Infrared hardware and TrackMate software.

Chassis:

Brass or Steel/Brass mix only. NO plastic, wood, 3D, etc.

Scratchbuilt is the preferred choice but NOT required.
Mixing steel and brass allowed
NO minimum weight. It’s a barge.

Older Pro-Track or current H&R chassis are allowed. No other brands.
Track clearance: 1/8 is a good minimum to start but can go as low 3/32.
I include this minimum due to some of the chassis like H&R being in between the two heights in many cases.
Any motor bracket or scratch bracket allowed.

Running Gear:

Wheels will be the narrow H&R/Pro-Track “Fronts” or the new CB Design Series all around.
You can choose between smooth (ribless) wheels or the newer wheels with inner rib.

Tire width should not exceed 12.5 MM. Which will be no issue as you must use the PG Tires listed.
You can utilize 3/32 or 1/8 axle bore.
Gear ratios are your choice. I will suggest 9/27 or 9/28 as this seems the best on our size oval.
Slot.it, Scaleauto, Parma, H&R, JK gears allowed.
Guide can be larger commercial grade or any Sloting Plus, Slot.it, Scaleauto 1/32 guide.
Your choice of braid.

MOTOR:

We will be using only the SCC JAWS or new Predator Long Can (The JAWS replacement) motor.
The NSR Baby King (17,000 RPM EVO 3 MOTOR) also allowed.

Tires:

Only Paul Gage tires allowed on rear. Sizes 28125 or 26125
If using smooth wheels without the inner rib, 28120 or 26120
NO OTHER TIRE ALLOWED ON THE REAR

Older foams or older urethane/rubber allowed on fronts only.
Overall diameter should be no less than 25mm. These are not LMP or low profile type cars.

Bodies:

Common sense should be your guide.
Time period: 1959 to 1964

Any  American sedan 1/25th or 1/24th plastic model kit body that they used in the series.
No El Caminos, Rancheros, or Trucks.

I will suggest 1/25th. There is a difference albeit slight in some cases.
NO short box models. That means no Mustangs/Camaros, etc.
We are talking about those large and long sedans here. We will give you examples.
If the trunk is longer than the hood, you likely have the right model to start 🙂
If you find a kit, simply ASK ME and I will make the call.
NO resin or clear lexan bodies. Standard model kit bodies only.

Modeling Notes:
This series follows the same spirit as our 1/32 Showdown.
It is about MODELING as much as performance. Try to recreate a car that would look the part on the track during that time. Added scale detail is HIGHLY encouraged!

Wheels/Tires must be INSIDE the body. NO enlarged fenders or flares.
Must have interior. Simple flat stock with driver and roll bar accepted.
NO lexan formed trays. They look horrible and this is about MODELING as well as performance.
Must have glass in place. Either kit or clear plastic you had to make.
Body to track clearance should be 1/8 and not to exceed 3/32. Any lower and you risk dragging.
Models will be painted to match the style NASCAR used at the time. Either model a 1:1 prototype or create your own style.
Again, common sense here. There is no shortage of photographs for you to use as a guide.
Wheels should look like the time period. Basically plain steel wheels. Either inserts or the CB Design Steelies. NO LMP or any style wheel patterns that do match the time period.
