Carrera Ford GT

One of the most important new models from Carrera has finally arrived at my door. With an impressive showing at Le Mans and the Rolex 24 Hours, this new car from Ford has already joined its predecessors in the history books. It was a natural choice to create a 1/32nd scale version and Carrera has the first off the line.

If you follow the world of motorsports then you are well aware of the accomplishments this team as achieved. If not, just do what we all do and search. One of the best photography reports on this car is found here. This will allow you to compare the 1:1 to the model and then make your own decision on how well Carrera delivered it in scale.

Our Video Review

By the numbers the car is very close to scale. Or at least close enough for me. The shape of the car seems a little on the tall side around the greenhouse and there is no doubt it sits a little high off the chassis.

Length Width Height Wheelbase Weight
154 MM 64 MM 33 MM 85 MM 108 g

As usual, it’s all your own decision. For me it is more than acceptable.

The markings and colors are almost dead on and the finish is excellent. Perhaps it is just that I have been in this hobby for so many years that I can truly appreciate the model in front of me. Go back 15 years or so and I assure you this level of finish was not common with this brand.

Detail such as the visible brake rotors and markings on the tires add so much to the eye candy aspect.

A common sight for Carrera models. Standard inline configuration. 9/27 gearing and the polarity switch for directing change.

A tire change for my track was easy. These wheels are identical to the C7R wheels and I had the tires on hand.

As the video shows, this car is super smooth and tracks well. The only issue is the front being so high and the wheels supporting so much weight. That’s ok as we can address this in later tuning. The important thing for me was a solid platform and this car delivers.

The race I wanted was against the latest C7R. In this match up the Vette had a slight edge but not by a large margin. A 4.124 best by the Vette followed by the GT with a 4.168. Not bad really. One I tune this car a little more, things will be even closer. As it is I am happy they are this close.

All in all I am pleased with the effort. For the advanced enthusiasts who are looking to tune, this is a good platform to work with. For the average home racer it will run right with others in the series and it just looks good doing it.  Easily a must have in your collection for any modern GT fan.

Especially at the low entry fee.
