Weir Razin (Team Manager for Bandit Racing) was overheard to have said in comments to a Weekly Racing Newspaper that covers Dirt Track racing in the North Central United States that was doing a 'Human Interest' story on the Bandit whom they had covered when he was racing Wing Sprints years ago stated:
"In response to your question as to why the Bandit came out of retirement after nearly 10 years, he was able to convince Mrs Bandit to let him!
She told him to get it out of his system once and for all. As to how things have been going this season, actually, we are surprised on how well we are doing. We have been 'out of the game' for a long time. Once we got going, it just seemed to come back to us. He still needs to remember to use the dang brakes! Do we want to win each time? Of course we do but we know that is not possible. When it comes right down to it, the main goal we have is just to have fun racing. And yes, when he rolled the Taureg in the first race you heard right. He was laughing and said 'THAT was fun'!! All Mrs Bandit said in response was 'Well, you know that it isn't the first time he rolled his car and it sure won't be the last time the way he drives!' As to the reason he rolled it, even he admits that he tried to carry too much speed into the corner waiting too late to apply the brakes. Heck, you have been covering guys like him for years, He has always driven his car to the limit so did you really expect him to change at this point in his life?!?!? {laughing}
Seriously though, he is learning what he can and can not do driving on pavement. He probably is harder on himself than I can be when he makes what he keeps saying are stupid rookie mistakes. Mrs B reminds him each time that he IS a rookie compared to the other drivers in the series. The Promoters and other teams have been really great to work with. As I said before, we are new to this sort of racing and have had a lot to learn in a short time. We feel that we have made progress and that hopefully we haven't inadvertently been a safety hazard while getting up to speed. Ok looks like the Bandit is here so now you can have a talk with him. I will wish you lots of luck! I am sure you remember how he was whenever you tried to talk to him seriously years ago."
