Another question

Postby Dewman51 » Thu Oct 12, 2017 10:33 am

I've been watching some of the videos and have a question. When a car deslots do the other drivers just stop or is there someone stopping them somehow? When someone deslots on my track the other guys usually just keep going !! Even when we say we will stop there is always one guy who takes a little too long to stop -- Whoops

Some have track call features that shut the power off. The killing of power is needed just for those people who ignore it verbally. Typical commercial application.

Others like myself, we just stop. Never needed it.

Depends on your kind of racing.

That might serve as the very definition of HOME Racing World vs commercial tracks.

On all my tracks, we just stop when someone off's. I used call buttons at all six stations on the oval, and they worked well. There will always be one that wants to sneak in some real estate after the others. It is best to call out when you crash though! sometimes you are so into the racing that you don't notice a de-slot at the other end.

We have one bloke who wins time and time again because he doesn't stop until he's far enough ahead that he'll be hard to catch before the finish. In the big scheme of things, are we the losers or is he?

We don't stop racing, because we never stopped for someone falling off the track in real life too. Only a huge pile-up brings out a track call, to give the poor marshall the time to sort out the mess.

With respect to my 1/32nd club, Shoreline Model Raceways, most of our tracks have spots that are difficult to reach, so we always have track calls in the event of a crash. All of our tracks have a single pause control button on an extension cord with a person in charge of that. If there is a crash that person might see it, or he might be looking at another part of the track, so the driver will yell TRACK!. In the case of HOCOC, which is my HO club, we always do track calls on ovals because the lap times are very low. On road courses we normally do not use track calls. The exception to that would be if we did not have enough people to marshal the track properly and the one track where there is a place that can't be reached easily. We dock a lap for each crash if we are using track calls with a maximum number being allowed before the driver is out of the race.
If you want to compare slot racing to 1:1 racing remember that a 1:1 car that has gone off the track can just drive back on if it is not seriously damaged. On a road course a disabled car would trigger a local yellow if it was off the track or possibly a full course yellow. A major accident could trigger a red flag. When a slot car crashes it is not going anywhere until it gets put back in the slot.

Here at NASTE in the Portland area we typically have corner marshals and the racers keep going. Occasionally when we don't have enough people to marshal we'll use a track call. With our program we just hit the space bar on the keyboard to stop the race and clock. Hit it again and you get a 5-4-3-2-1-go. Some marshals are quicker than others, but just as we all use each lane we also use the same marshals.

We have one track in the area that has a delay for track calls. When you press the track call button it takes about 3 seconds for the power to shut down while everyone else is still running. This is the penalty for coming out of the slot. You must be penalized for your sins.

Whether everyone stops at my buddy's Bagdad Speedway is up to the position of the crashing car.
If the crasher is the race leader everyone keeps going and has a chance to catch up to him/her. Can't pass, but has a chance to catch up.
If the chasing driver crashes, he/she yells stop and the gentlemanly thing for the leaders to do is to stop ASAP. As above, everyone behind the crasher keeps going and has a chance to catch up to him/her.
This tends to keep the races tighter and lends to some colorful language upon crashes.
