Things have been busy but the racing continues. Here are the results from race #4:

Trans Am Challenge – race # 4 report:

Points standings after races 3A & 3B:

1) CJR - #1J Javelin (31 pts)
2) Vonsirius - #13 Camaro (25.5 pts)
3) Artus - #40 Camaro (25 pts)
4) Chappy - # 28 Camaro (24.5 pts)
5) BARC1 - #22 Mustang (24 pts)
6) CARacing - #8 Firebird (20 pts)
7) Pepsi62 - #42 Cuda (19.5 pts)
8) RMS racing - #2 Mustang (19.5 pts)
9) TL racing - #41 Cougar (27 pts)
10) Hksks25 - #19 Camaro (15.5 pts)
11) Arroldn - #77 Challenger (14 pts)
12) Tusco Todd - #1 Camaro (12.5 pts)

The points standings were inverted to set the starting order for race #4, with the #1 Camaro of Tusco Todd on the pole and the #1J Javelin of CJR starting 12th.

The Camaro of Tusco Todd got off to a strong start and began to put some distance between itself and Arroldn’s Challenger in 2nd place. After a while Arroldn pulled within reach of Tusco Todd but couldn’t get by. The same was true for the entire field, as cars followed each other like a conga line around the track in tight formation, with no one being able to complete a pass. The stalemate was broken on lap 7 when CARacing’s Firebird clipped the wall going into the back straight and lost 5 positions, ending up in last place. The next pass was on lap 13 when the Javelin of CJR spun in the appendix turn and ended up at the rear of the field with CARacing. On lap 26 the points leading Javelin of CJR got by CARacing’s Firebird but could do no better than an 11th place finish.

Upfront things seemed to be set with cars still holding on to their starting positions, but when Hksk25 finally got by Arroldn’s Challenger for 2nd place on lap 30 things began to get interesting. The only lead change of the race took place on lap 33 when Hksk25’s Camaro caught and passed Tusco Todd. The last pass of the race took place on the back straight on lap 39 when TL racing’s Cougar got by Arroldn for 3rd place.

The finishing order for race #4 was: 1) Hksk25, 2) Tusco Todd, 3) TL racing, 4) Arroldn, 5) RMS racing, 6) Pepsi62, 7) BARC1, 8) Chappy, 9) Artus, 10) Vonsirius, 11) CJR, 12) CARacing

Points standings after 4 races:
1) CJR - #1J Javelin (31 pts)
2) Hksks25 - #19 Camaro (30.5 pts)
3) BARC1 - #22 Mustang (30 pts)
4) Chappy - # 28 Camaro (29.5 pts)
5) Artus - #40 Camaro (29 pts)
6) Vonsirius - #13 Camaro (28.5 pts)
7) RMS racing - #2 Mustang (27.5 pts)
8) TL racing - #41 Cougar (27 pts)
9) Pepsi62 - #42 Cuda (26.5 pts)
10) Tusco Todd - #1 Camaro (24.5 pts)
11) Arroldn - #77 Challenger (23 pts)
12) CARacing - #8 Firebird (21 pts)

CJR in the Scalextric Javelin continues to lead the points, but check out how tight things are behind him. Positions 1 – 9 are only separated by 5 ½ points and there’s a lot of racing still to go.

Race #5 will have A & B segments of 20 laps each.

Races 5A & B (20 laps each) are in the books too - another race report will be ready soon!

It's a lot of work running this series - recording lap times, building the files to run the simulation, then tabulating things and writing the report - but I'm having tons of fun doing it! This is a blast seeing how this group of cars do head to head in the simulation.

With the starting grid inverted by points for each race things remain tight and no one is out of it yet. The top 5 in points when it's all done will probably only be separated by a very few points and I may have to use wins or best finish in the last race to break a tie to determine the champion.

Right now I use highest finish in the last race to break ties. What do you guys think - should that be used at the end if needed, or use # wins as the first tie breaker for the championship?

Trans Am Challenge – race # 5A report:

Points standings after 4 races:
1) CJR - #1J Javelin (31 pts)
2) Hksks25 - #19 Camaro (30.5 pts)
3) BARC1 - #22 Mustang (30 pts)
4) Chappy - # 28 Camaro (29.5 pts)
5) Artus - #40 Camaro (29 pts)
6) Vonsirius - #13 Camaro (28.5 pts)
7) RMS racing - #2 Mustang (27.5 pts)
8) TL racing - #41 Cougar (27 pts)
9) Pepsi62 - #42 Cuda (26.5 pts)
10) Tusco Todd - #1 Camaro (24.5 pts)
11) Arroldn - #77 Challenger (23 pts)
12) CARacing - #8 Firebird (21 pts)

Starting grid for race #5A: 1) CARacing, 2) Arroldn, 3) Tusco Todd, 4) Pepsi62, 5) TL racing, 6) RMS racing, 7) Vonsirius, 8) Artus, 9) Chappy, 10) BARC1, 11) Hksks25, 12) CJR

CARacing was not happy about having fallen to last place in points, but the team was determined to make the most of starting on the pole as the Firebird held off challenges from Arroldn and Tusco Todd thru the first half of the race. However, there was more passing in this race than recent races which meant passing lanes could exist allowing more accomplished cars from further back in the field to move forward.

The passing started on lap 4 when TL racing’s Cougar spun and lost 7 positions, ending up at the back of the field. This moved the once top ranked Camaro of Vonsirius to 6th place and the always fast Javelin of CJR to 11th. A lap later CJR got by Hksk25 for 10th. On lap 7 the Challenger of Arroldn began being gobbled up but the rest of the field until it ended up at the rear with TL racing’s Cougar on lap 13.

Capitalizing on the misfortune of others, Vonsirius was now in 5th and CJR was in 8th. But while CJR’s Javelin got caught up in battles with Chappy (7th) and Artus (6th), Vonsirius found his way past RMS racing, Pepsi62, and CARacing to take the lead on lap 17. Tusco Todd remained in the top 3 all race, and got by CARacing for 2nd on lap 19 while Pepsi62 made a last lap pass to claim 3rd place. The best CJR could do was finally get to 7th place when Chappy’s Mustang spun on the final lap.

The finishing order for race #5A: 1) Vonsirius, 2) Tusco Todd, 3) Pepsi62, 4) CARacing, 5) RMS racing, 6) Artus, 7) CJR, 8) BARC1, 9) Hksk25, 10) TL racing, 11) Chappy, 12) Arroldn.

Vonsirius was the first repeat winner in the Trans Am Challenge series.

Points standings after race # 5A: * = wins
1) Vonsirius - #13 Camaro (36 pts) **
2) CJR - #1j Javelin (34 pts) *
3) Artus - #40 Camaro (32.5 pts)
4) BARC1 - #22 Mustang (32.5 pts)
5) Hksk25 - #19 Camaro (32.5 pts) *
6) Pepsi62 - #42 Cuda (31.5 pts)
7) RMS racing - #2 Mustang (31.5 pts) *

10) TL racing - #41 Cougar (28.5 pts)

Trans Am Challenge – race # 5B report:

Points standings after race 5A:
1) Vonsirius - #13 Camaro (36 pts)
2) CJR - #1J Javelin (34 pts)
3) Artus - #40 Camaro (32.5 pts)
4) BARC1 - #22 Mustang (32.5 pts)
5) Hksks25 - #19 Camaro (32.5 pts)
6) Pepsi62 - #42 Cuda (31.5 pts)
7) RMS racing - #2 Mustang (31.5 pts)
8) Tusco Todd - #1 Camaro (30.5 pts
9) Chappy - # 28 Camaro (30.5 pts)
10) TL racing - #41 Cougar (28.5 pts)
11) CARacing - #8 Firebird (25.5 pts)
12) Arroldn - #77 Challenger (23.5 pts)

Starting grid for race #5B: 1) Arroldn, 2) CARacing, 3) TL racing, 4) Chappy, 5) Tusco Todd, 6) RMS racing, 7) Pepsi62, 8) Hksk25, 9) BARC1, 10) Artus, 11) CJR, 12) Vonsirius

As the cars lined up for race 5B the shifting points standings could be seen by the fact Chappy, winner of race #1, was starting in 4th place while Hksk25 who’d struggled earlier was now high enough in points to be relegated to 8th place on the grid. Arroldn’s Challenger underwent a motor change before lining up on the pole. There was a lot of anticipation about if the guys up front would be able to hold off challenges from hotshots further back in the grid.

The questions started to be answered immediately as Chappy got around TL racing on lap 1 as Tusco Todd, RMS racing, Hksk25, and BARC1 followed. By lap 5 Chappy had his Mustang in 2nd place behind Arroldn’s Challenger. Further back BARC1 moved into 5th from its 9th place starting position.

CJR’s Javelin got by RMS racing for 8th on lap 9, then spun in the loop turn and ended up in last place. Arroldn held onto the lead for as long as possible, but Chappy’s short charge from 4th starting position to 1st place culminated on lap 10 when his Mustang powered past the Challenger on the start straight. On the same lap Vonsirius took over 8th place from RMS racing but could not get by Artus for 7th.

On lap 15 BARC1 got by CARacing for 3rd place and then passed Arroldn for 2nd place on lap 19. Chappy became the second repeat winner of the series (Vonsirius won races 2 and 5A) with BARC1 in second. Arroldn and CARacing also had impressive outings by only dropping from 1st and 2nd to 3rd and 4th respectively.

The finishing order for race #5A was: 1) Chappy, 2) BARC1, 3) Arroldn, 4) CARacing, 5) Tusco Todd, 6) Pepsi62, 7) Artus, 8) Vonsirius, 9) RMS racing, 10) Hksk25, 11) TL racing, 12) CJR.

Points standings after race # 5B: (pts) * = race wins
1) BARC1 - #22 Mustang (38.5 pts)
2) Vonsirius - #13 Camaro (38.5 pts) * *
3) Chappy - #28 Mustang (38 pts) * *
4) Artus - #40 Camaro (35.5 pts)
5) Pepsi62 - #42 Cuda (35 pts)
6) Tusco Todd - #1 Camaro (34.5 pts)
7) CJR - #1J Javelin (34.5 pts) *
8) Hksk25 - #19 Camaro (34 pts) *
9) RMS racing - #2 Mustang (33.5 pts) *
10) CARacing - #8 Firebird (30 pts)
11) TL racing - #41 Cougar (29.5 pts)
12) Arroldn - #77 Challenger (28.5 pts)

NOTE: Ties in point standings are broken using highest finish in most recent race.

Race #6 will be 40 laps in length.

Wow thanks for the racing, reporting, and motor change. Maybe the Challenger will be competitive as the racing continues. Um is it possible to make up 10 points? We'll just have to see.

Given the last few race results, TL Racing will be hocking our tools again, and stopping payment on the electric bill. I shut the lights off since I was the last one out the door. The Cougars maintenance for the remaining season will be handled by the local tire/lube shop, as we have a glove box full of forged coupons. Lucky our truck and trailers lease was paid in advance, or we'd be driving the Cougar to the track.

BARC Racing Headquarters

I am very pleased with the direction the team is heading. Looks like the changes made are having a positive effect on the team, and as a result the team is in a position to win. The competition is tight and no one has a lock on anything yet. We will continue to work towards our first race win, which of course will help our overall series standings. Consistency has got us to the top, but we need to win a race or two to take control of this thing . Ultimately the equipment needs to be driven on the edge of out of control, and we are confident that our driver is getting it there.
